Windows Embedded Compact 7 or Google Android for Asus Eee Pad EP101TC?
The Asus Eee Pad EP101TC is supposed to be Asus’ answer to the Apple iPad. According to original news, the tablet maker has decided to drop the Windows Embedded Compact 7 system and use Google Android instead. Latest word on the streets is that Asus will actually launch two models of the tablet, each with either one of the operating systems. At least, according to PC World.
Shipping dates also vary. The one with the Windows Embedded OS will ship in January, while the one with Google Android has a march ship date. Pricing is at $399 or less. By that time, I guess we can pick up a first generation Apple iPad for a song since they’d probably be ready to launch generation 2 with something tablet makers would scramble after trying to duplicate.
We can also look forward to December 2010/January 2011 for the 12″ Eee Pad EP121 which will have Windows 7. By that time, we hope that the $1000 price tag that will come it will be lowered.
And remember that we said the Eee Tablet, the ebook reader-slash-note-taking device will ship in October for $600? Still according to PC World, it’s still shipping in October but the price tag is down to $300.
