Windows 7 vs. Windows XP

Microsoft Windows 7 StarterI must admit, I’m still using Windows XP on my own machine.

I’m the type of person who loves comfort zones and I love Windows XP. I’ve been an XP-user since Service Pack 1, and I’ve tried Windows Vista for all of 10 minutes before I decided to switch back to Windows XP. I’ve used both Home and Pro, and I’ve been happy with either one, so I don’t see the need to change.

It’s been two weeks since the release of Windows 7, and I’ve been hearing a whole lot of good things about it. I haven’t had the chance to really play around with a Windows 7 machine, and I hope to do so when I can get my hands on a Windows 7 netbook to review. All I know is that it’s faster and friendlier than Windows XP.

But how different is Windows 7 from Windows XP? Amazon.com has this little chart that shows the features that 7 has that the XP does not.

Aside from improved multi-tasking abilities, Windows 7 allows instant and easy finding of files as well as access because of the Windows Search feature and Pin Jump Lists. HomeGroups allow easier file sharing among home PCs. Parental Controls are also present giving parents peace of mind when it comes to their children’s surfing habits. Sleep and resume times are also cut with Windows 7, and power management and battery life are improved. Windows 7, at least the Home Premium edition, also comes with the Windows Media Center that allows you to watch and record TV (free Internet TV content, at least) on the PC.

Sounds like a lot of improvement from my old, beloved Windows XP. While there are still a lot of Windows XP netbooks available on Amazon, most of them are actually being sold on bargain prices, Windows 7 netbooks are already making an appearance on the Amazon Top 10 List. Such as the Asus Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-PU17 which is currently at numbers 4 and 5 on the list.

Here are more netbooks with Windows 7 Starter that are available from Amazon:

    $349.99
10.1″ (1024×600) 16:9 LED Display, Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1GB Memory, 160GB 5400RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive, 6 Hours of Battery Life
