Velocity Micro 10.2″ NoteMagix M10 Now Available

A new player is gearing to break into the netbook market. Velocity Micro’s 10.2″ NoteMagix M10 is already available and has an estimated ship date of April 30. It comes with the usual netbook staples: 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB RAM, and 160GB HDD.

While it was reported earlier this year that Velocity wanted to differentiate the netbook from others with accessories and customization, the only option so far is a DVD writer for an additional $70. It does come with a 6-cell battery rather than the promised 3-cell battery. The 6 cell battery is supposed to last for 6+ hours - Longer hours equals more selling points. Color-wise, you can choose among black, blue or burgundy. The burgundy (pictured above) looks really good.

The Velocity Micro M10 Gx is available for pre-order at Amazon for $399. It does come with a ‘1 Year VelocityCare US based in-house and phone Technical Support’ which should be a big plus for people who want some technical help.

  • We’re wondering how the NoteMagix M10 would fare in comparison to other netbooks that are already out there and have already made their marks. With the technical specifications that are so similar to other netbooks with the same offerings but bigger names, the only thing that would get the public to give it a second look is it’s price. For $399.99 a pop from Amazon, what do you think? Reasonable? Or go to another brand?

We’ll give you more on the NoteMagix M10 as soon as we get more feedback. At this point it’s not as compelling a buy as a Samsung NC10 or Acer ASpire One – However, Velocity Micro have a lot of expertise building PC systems and they’re evolving their netbook line fast enough to pose a threat.
