Upgrade Windows 7 Starter to Home Premium for $80

To pre-load or not to pre-load Windows 7, that is the question. At least that’s the question asked by Microsoft to netbook makers everywhere.

Microsoft has unveiled the “Windows Anytime Upgrade” (WAU) which, for $80, allows a netbook user to upgrade their Windows 7 Starter netbook to Windows 7 Home Premium. This is considering that netbook users want their netbooks to be their primary machines, which means they need these netbooks to be able to handle more than just the everyday email or net surfing.

What’s the diff between the Starter and the Premium edition? Well, there’s remote media streaming, taskbar previews, Aero Peek, and enabled desktop themes. Honestly, I think it’s a little steep. And for someone who doesn’t need remote media streaming, the Starter edition isn’t only enough, it’s already good.

Other WAU options are as follows:

Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional: $89.99

Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate: $139.99

Windows 7 will be released on October 22nd.
