Students Can Get Windows 7 for $30

Windows 7 for StudentsStudents have more reason to get Windows 7. They can get it for $30 when they purchase Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional (upgrade versions) until 3rd January 2010. Check out the website Microsoft has launched that’s dedicated to promoting Windows 7 to students, Win741.com.

Windows 7 is less expensive than Vista, as well as a better operating system for netbooks. A retail Home Premium upgrade is $120, and the standalone version is $200. Professional upgrade will cost $200, or $300 for the standalone. An upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate is $220 and $320 for the full copy. Upgrades require your machine to have Windows XP or Vista. So if you really want to get Windows 7 on your netbook, and you ARE a student, now is the best time to get it. All you need is a valid email address from your school. The software will be available for students to download in either 32-bit or 64-bit versions.

Here’s what Microsoft has to say in an email to Neowin.net:

“students will benefit from many of Windows 7′s unique functions and applications which make PC’s easier, simpler and more fun to use. For those students who have the latest laptops with touch screen technology, Windows 7 comes with enhanced capabilities for an enriched touch experience, allowing a more direct and natural way to work – it’s also perfect for netbooks. Other features include remote media streaming, improved gaming experience, enhanced security and integration of Windows Media Centre for more central and convenient management of music, movies and photos.”

Windows 7 will officially launch on October 22.
