Students want smaller, lighter netbooks which last longer
Survey results out from California-based Retrevo indicate that students are looking for smaller, lighter netbooks that last longer. According to the 2009 survey, of students interested in buying laptops, 34% are opting for netbooks while 49% are opting for PC laptops. The recession has resulted in lower budgets, with the majority of students looking to spend no more than $750 on their laptop.
While this proves that netbooks will be successful amongst student shoppers, it also implies that Apple Macs won’t fare so well this back-to-school shopping season. GigaOm quotes a report by a Morgan Stanley analyst that states 40% of college student shoppers in 2008 planned on purchasing Macs.

With the cheapest Mac laptop option costing $949 (with a student discount), it really makes you wonder why Apple isn’t jumping on the netbook bandwagon. Where’s that rumored netbook-tablet-thingamajig we’ve all been fantasizing about?! Or just a simple cloud computing device that’s bigger than an iPhone?
