“Sex and the City” Goes from Mac to HP
I’ve been a huge, huge fan of the HBO hit series Sex and the City, and if there was a word synonymous to the show other than “sex” that’s Mac. Yes, episode after episode would show Carrie Bradshaw typing on her Mac laptops (from PowerBook G3 through the PowerBook Pismo). Carrie’s life was my “dream life”, just typing all day on my Mac (well, I don’t have a Mac, but you get what I mean), making a living. One episode I particularly liked and could relate to was “My Motherboard, My Self” where Carrie got herself a sad Mac and lost all her files. Anyway, I guess Sex and the City did get a sad Mac since they’ve switched to HP. Yes, no more Macs.
Looks like HP has been much more aggressive with their product placement campaigns in television and movies. They have also sponsored Project Runway. HP has also partnered with designers to create designer netbooks such as the Vivienne Tam netbooks which turned the HP Mini 210 into a “digital clutch”. The Vivienne Tam Butterfly Lover Netbook is still available from Amazon for $708.00 $596.05.
Mashable is saying that it’s a cost-cutting move by the movie industry, but then again, where did I hear the saying “once you go Mac, you never go back”? I have friends who have been trying to convince me to try a Mac. I know I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and I do believe what they say about how easy it is to use, and all that. I just don’t have the heart to move.
Carrie Bradshaw, however, who moved from Mac to Windows might need a moment to transition. An HP digital clutch would definitely look good on her.
Check out a cool vid after the break.
