Samsung NC20 Netbook Review – Samsung NC20 12.1″

The samsung-nc20Samsung NC2012.1″ netbook might be the answer to a lot of netbook users’ prayers.

What do people want most in a netbook?

  • Convenience and portability.
  • Usable Screen and keyboard.
  • Longer battery life.

The Samsung NC20 comes across as a good successor to the A+ rated Samsung NC10 as it has some great features -

  1. The NC20 weighs only 3.3 lbs so we can definitely say that this baby is very portable and easy to carry for the netbook-user-on-the-go.
  2. The NC20 is actually bigger than it’s big brother, the NC10. With the NC20’s 12.1-inch screen, it’s almost as big as a small notebook and the resolution is great (1280 by 800 WXGA).
  3. The keyboard? We thought that the NC10’s 93% size keyboard already rocked. The NC20’s got a 97% keyboard. Yes, bigger and better, with smooth key action for more comfortable typing. It’s also really easy to get used to if you’re transitioning from a notebook keyboard to this one.
  4. The Samsung NC20 also comes with a 6-cell lithium battery which promises up to 6 hours of unplugged use, and actually delivers. It clocked in at more than 5 hours, 50 minutes with wireless turned on.
  5. Do note that it uses a Via Nano U2250 processor (1.3 GHz) and not an Intel Atom.

The NC20 delivers solid performance. It can perform various netbook tasks like browsing, working with documents, watching movies, music, even non resource intensive games. Keep in mind that graphics are not as good as when you’re playing on a PC or a laptop.

Samsung NC20-21GBK Netbook Ratings :

1. Power + Performance: A-. Not so sure about moving away from the Intel Atom platform.
2. Price: B. Its more expensive than the NC10 and almost out of the ideal netbook price range.
3. Portability: A. Its still small enough and has excellent battery life.
4. Looks: A. Samsung always makes their netbooks pretty.
5. Usability: A. Again the 97% keyboard really helps. As does the larger 12.1″ screen size.

Overall Grade: A-.
Buying Recommendation: Highly Recommended if you can handle the price. The Samsung NC20 is pricey at $549.99. However, overall it’s an awesome netbook, and will be worth the money in the long run.

Samsung and Newegg.com both have the black one in stock, although it also comes in white (at Amazon UK currently – Amazon US doesn’t have it yet).

We’re also waiting for the really cool neon colorsto come out. Colors such as electric green, miso red, aquatic, clockwork orange and snow camouflage will be available.
