Acer Review, Asus Review – Netbook 10

The Samsung N150 is the cheapest 10″ notebook the company has launched so far. But that hasn’t stopped them from sprucing up and releasing several souped up custom versions of the original.  They’ve got a kid-friendly version, a funkier Corby edition and even an Adidas-themes sporty design. The latest entry to the line is a version that will be retailed exclusively at Best Buy stores across the US.

The specs in addition to those of the Samsung N150 include:

A higher capacity 250GB hard drive

Prolonged battery life

New lid design

Pre-installed Microsoft 2010 Starter edition

Laptop Mag reports that the battery life lasted for a little over 7 hours,about 13 minutes more than the Samsung N150. They claim its because the power utility kicks in when the netbook in in Sleep mode. The idea is that the computer can be left on standby or sleepmode for longer because it uses up less power.

The main reason to even consider the PLUS version as opposed to the standard version is the fact that it comes equipped with Microsoft’s 2010 Starter version. The bummer is that the pack only includes Word and Exel so any additional features have to be bought at rather steep prices. The good news is that there are options. Users can also use the Office Web apps for free or simply install openoffice.org.

Design wise, the PLUS edition comes with a glossier and much swankier red and black lid. The subtle dot pattern gives the netbook a classier edge that makes it look a lot more expensive than it is. Always a plus. It packs all of the usual USB ports and a 0.3 megapixel camera that is by no means outstanding but takes acceptable images and videos.

Overall, the Samsung N150 packs quite a punch. It looks spiffy, has a decent performance and an above-average battery life. Style hunters looking for good audio quality and the durability of a machine that they can use outdoors will be pleased.
