The Aspire One 521 is one of the newest 10.1-inch Acer netbooks in the US. Apart from the AO521, the following are the 10.1-inch netbooks from Acer:

Aspire One D150

Aspire One D250

Aspire One 531h

Aspire One P531h

Aspire One 532h

Aspire One 533

Aspire One D260

Just like the rest of the newer 10.1-inch netbook models (e.g. AO532h, AO533 and AOD260) the AO521’s keyboard is 93% of the standard keyboard size of notebook computers.

The Aspire One 521 stands out because it combines the defining features of the 11.6-inch netbook, AO721, and the 10.1-inch netbook, AO533. If you’re looking for a notebook that has the characteristics of an Aspire One 721 and the characteristics of an Aspire One 533, then you should really get the Aspire One 521.

Acer Aspire One 521 (AO521) Antique Brass Netbook

Why Choose the Aspire One 521?

Given a choice among all Aspire One netbooks, why should you choose the AO521?

You love streaming videos – especially HD videos

Enjoy watching HD videos with the 10.1-inch AO521. The Aspire One 521 has all the HD video viewing advantages of the Aspire One 721.

First, it has the ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics chip (with 384 MB of dedicated system memory). Just like the AO721, the Aspire One 521 is capable of smooth HD Video streaming.

Not only that, the Aspire One 521 also has an HDMI port for outputting HD videos to external displays. If you find the 10.1-inch screen too small, simply connect your netbook to your HDTV with an HDMI cable. Now you can watch your HD video on a larger screen without any loss in video quality.

You can also share your HD videos with others. Watch the video on your netbook and let others watch the same video on your HDTV or on a projector screen with AO521’s dual/simultaneous display capability.

You often keep multiple applications and windows open

The Aspire One 521 is also a good option if you love to multi-task. The AMD platform and the ATI Radeon 4225 graphics chip ensures that you can stream videos and use other visually intense applications without suffering from system freeze-ups or slow-downs.

Just like the AO721 and the AO533, moreover, the AO521 also uses the latest SDRAM technology – DDR3, which has twice the data transfer rate of DDR2. This makes the Aspire One 521 really fast and responsive.

You are used to Bluetooth file sharing

If you have many devices that you connect to your netbook through Bluetooth, you’ll love the AO521.

Like the Aspire One 533, the Aspire One 521 has the latest in Bluetooth technology – Bluetooth 3.0 or Bluetooth High Speed Technology. This makes bulk file sharing between your netbook and another Bluetooth-capable device fast and easy.

You bring your netbook everywhere

If you’re used to bringing your mobile computer with you everywhere, then the Aspire One 521 is a great option. Like the AO533, it comes with Acer’s MiniGo AC Adapter which weighs 34% lighter than standard AC adapters. It also has more or less the same dimensions as the AO533, so it should be easy to lug around.

Notes: There are Acer Aspire One 521 versions that are capable of 3G connectivity. However, the AO521 versions currently available in the US don’t have this capability. Furthermore, the AO521 versions in the US come with a battery life of 5.5 hours, but as per Acer’s support website, 7.5 hours of battery life is possible with the AO521’s high-capacity, 6-cell, 5600 mAh battery. Finally, according to the specs on the Acer support website, the AO521 netbook has 160GB versions. In the US, however, only AO521 with the 250GB hard drive is available.

The Aspire One 533 Netbooks Guide and Comparison Chart

On using this guide:

I. The Different Acer Aspire One 521 Netbook Versions

The Acer Aspire One 533 is a 10.1-inch netbook just like the Aspire One D260, Aspire One D250, Aspire One D150, Aspire One 531h, Aspire One P531h, Aspire One 532h, and Aspire One 521.

In the US, the AO533 netbook model currently has 6 different versions, all of which sport an 84-key keyboard that’s 93% the size of standard notebook computer keyboards. The 93% of standard keyboard size is a feature shared by the newer 10.1-inch Acer netbook models such as the AO532h, the AO521 and the AOD260. The rest of the 10.1-inch Aspire Ones have a smaller keyboard at 89% the standard size.

Aspire One 533: Defining Features

What are the things that set the Aspire One 533 apart from other 10.1-inch Acer netbooks?

Acer Aspire One 533 (AO533) Glossy Red Netbook

Bluetooth v3.0 High Speed: That’s right! The latest iteration of the Bluetooth wireless file sharing technology (i.e. Bluetooth 3.0 or Bluetooth High Speed Technology) is on selected versions of the Aspire One 533. If you want this, get the AO533-23096 (red netbook) or the AO533-23227 (black netbook).

Bluetooth v3.0 High Speed provides faster data transfer rates than Bluetooth v2.0 but is backward compatible with Bluetooth v2.0 and earlier versions. This means fast and effortless sharing of large files between devices.

With the AO533, you can easily synchronize bulk music files between your netbook and your music player, download bulk image files from your netbook to your printer, and send large video files from your netbook to your phone.

The AO533 is particularly perfect if you have other Bluetooth v3.0 devices with which your netbook can interface.

MiniGo Acer Adapter: This lightweight (34% lighter than standard), 40-watt AC adapter makes the AO533 a good option for frequent travelers.

DDR3 SDRAM: DDR3 SDRAM has a faster data transfer rate than DDR2 SDRAM (which most other Aspire One netbooks have).

Anti-Slip Touchpad: Just like the Aspire One 532h, the touchpad on the Aspire One 533 has a raised microbead texture that guides the finger for easier, no-slip navigation.

Sleek Look: The Aspire One 533 looks sleek. It has an attractive, glossy cover but a matte finish that prevents fingerprint smudges and minimizes the appearance of scratches. It also has a chrome rim as well as chrome accents on the touchpad.

AO533 Features NOT Available in Acer USA’s AO533 Netbooks

There are AO533 netbooks with 3G connectivity. However, the 6 versions available in the US (as per the US Acer website at the time of writing) don’t have this capability.

There are also Aspire One 533 netbooks that have 10 hours of battery life. Currently, however, the AO533 netbooks in the US all come with a 4400 mAh 6-cell battery that provides only up to 8 hours of battery life. If you can get the 5600 mAh, 6-cell, high-capacity battery for the AO533, however, you may be able to get as much as 10 hours of portable performance on your AO533.

Finally, AO533 netbooks actually have 3 color options: glossy black, glossy red and glossy white. In the US, however, only the black and red netbooks are available at present.

The Aspire One 533 Netbooks Guide and Comparison Chart

On using this guide:

Use Section I to learn the names of the different versions of the Aspire One 533 model.

Use Section II to ensure that the Aspire One 533 netbook has all the specifications that you want or need.

Use Section III to learn the differences among the available versions. Use this section, too, to create a list of the specifications you prefer.

Use Section IV to pick the netbook version that has the specifications you chose in the earlier step.

I. The Different Acer Aspire One 533 Netbook Versions

As mentioned earlier, Acer USA distributes 6 different versions of the Aspire One 533. They are the following:

Aspire One 533-13083

Aspire One 533-13531

Aspire One 533-23096

Aspire One 533-23227

Aspire One 533-23571

Aspire One 533-23923

II. Summary of Similarities among Acer Aspire One 533 Netbook Versions

The following are the specifications common to all Aspire One 533 netbook versions in the US:

Display: 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) 200-nitere TFT LCD

III. Summary of Differences among Acer Aspire One 533 Netbook Versions

Aspire One 533 gives you a choice among different processors, storage capacities, Bluetooth connectivity options, and colors.

Processor: Two Aspire One 533 netbooks have an Intel Atom N455 (512KB l2 cache, 1.66 GHz) processor while the rest of the versions have an Intel Atom N475 (512KB L2 cache, 1.83GHz) processor.

The Aspire One 721 is the newest 11.6-inch netbook from Acer USA. It is Acer’s third notebook-netbook (i.e. netbook that looks like a notebook). The other 11.6-inch Acer netbooks are the Aspire One 751h and the Ferrari One 200.

And it’s not just screen size that the Aspire One 721 shares with the Ferrari One 200 and the Aspire One 751h. The AO721 is also very slim at 1-inch high and also has a full-size keyboard. However, the 6-cell AO721 is lighter by 0.3 lb than the 6-cell FO200 but heavier by 0.03 lb than the 6-cell AO751h.

The HD Difference

Is the Aspire One 721 for you? It depends. If you need a netbook for basic office work and internet connectivity, are fond of streaming HD videos from the internet and want to watch these HD videos using your HDTV, then the Aspire One 721 is a perfect fit.

Aside from the standard specifications of Aspire One netbooks, the AO721 has a clear advantage over other Aspire One netbooks when it comes to HD video streaming and HD video outputting.

Smooth HD video streaming:

The Aspire One 721 offers smooth, high-definition video streaming. It has an integrated ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics chip with 384 MB dedicated system memory. This gives the AO721 its superior HD video playback performance.

HD Video Outputting:

Apart from a VGA port for outputting video to external displays (e.g. your TV), an HDMI port is also available. This gives you the ability to output HD video to your HDTV without loss in video quality. To watch HD videos from streaming websites on your HDTV or any other HD-capable display, simply use an HDMI cable to output the video from your AO721.

Simultaneous Display:

AO721 has simultaneous display support. If you want to share a video you’re watching to a large group of people, output the video to an HDTV (using the HDMI port), to a projector (through the VGA port then use a projector screen) or to a regular TV monitor (through the VGA port), and the video will be simultaneously displayed on the external display and on your netbook’s display.

The RAM

Yet another thing that sets the Aspire One 721 apart from other Acer netbooks is DDR3 SDRAM interface. The DDR3 SDRAM transfers data at twice the data transfer rate of the DDR2 SDRAM, the typical interface used in earlier Acer netbooks.

Acer Aspire One 721-3574

No Bluetooth and No Color Choices

Unfortunately, the Aspire One 721 does not have integrated Bluetooth connectivity. Resolving this is just an easy matter of buying a Bluetooth dongle, however.

On the other hand, if you don’t really want a black netbook, then the AO721 is just not for you. The Aspire One 721 gives you a choice between mesh-black and mesh-black.

The Aspire One 721 11.6-inch Netbooks Guide and Comparison Chart

I. The Different Acer Aspire One 721 Netbook Versions

Acer’s Aspire One 721 comes in 2 versions. This is good news if you know you want an AO721 netbook but don’t want to be presented with too many options. This is bad news if the 2 available versions don’t have exactly the specs you have in mind.

In any case, the following are the 2 different AO721 versions:

Aspire One 721-3070

Aspire One 721-3574

II. Summary of Similarities among Acer Aspire One 721 Netbook Versions

III. Summary of Differences among Acer Aspire One 721 Netbook Versions

The two AO721 versions are virtually identical. They only differ on one point, and that is:

Storage: The Aspire One 721-3070 has a 160-GB hard drive, while the Aspire One 721-3574 has a bigger storage capacity at 250 GB.

IV. Acer Aspire One 721 Netbooks Comparison Chart

We don’t really need a comparison chart for the AO721. Picking your version is just a matter of deciding whether you need a 160-GB or a 250-GB hard drive – but if you insist, here it is:

The 10.1-inch Aspire One 532h is Acer’s very own Pineview (a.k.a Pine Trail) netbook. That is, it has an Intel Atom N450 processor, which belongs to the Pineview or Pine Trail class of Intel Atom processors. Most other Aspire One netbooks have an Intel Atom N270 or an Intel Atom N280 processor. Both the N270 and the N280 belong to the Intel Atom Diamondville family of processors.

Is it another 10-inch Aspire One copycat?

Most people would probably agree that Acer is not one of the most creative netbook manufacturers when it comes to netbook design. Acer netbooks, for the most part and with the exception of the Ferrari One brand, look the same. This begs the question: is the Aspire One 532h another indistinguishable 10-inch netbook in Acer’s Aspire One line?

The answer is yes. Physically, the Aspire One 532h netbook looks pretty much the same as other Aspire One netbooks, especially the 10-inch models (think Aspire One D250, D150, 531h, and P531h). Of course, there are minor differences.

The Aspire One 532h netbook from Acer has a metallic-looking cover, for one, and this really catches the eyes. The touchpad has raised dots to guide your fingers so you can do your finger scrolling, flipping, rotating, and pinching with greater ease.

The Aspire One 532h netbook's anti-slip touchpad

The keyboard also got an upgrade; it is 93% of standard, which is larger than the 89% of standard that is normal for other 10.1-inch Aspire One netbooks. Finally, the Aspire One 532h netbook is also quite thin (0.99 inch) and relatively light (2.48 lbs. or 2.8 lbs. depending on type of battery used).

This time, though, Acer did not just repackage an old product, tweak a few things, and sell it as a new netbook model. In fact, you could say Acer did the opposite. It took a new product and (for some reason known only to Acer) made it look like any other Aspire One netbook.

The “Core” Difference of the Acer Aspire One 532h

The Aspire One 532h as above-mentioned, has the Pineview N450 Intel Atom processor. This makes all the difference for this netbook.

Power advantage: The Intel Atom N450 processor is more power efficient than the N270 and the N280. The N450 has a system-on-a-chip (SOC) design with the graphics processor and memory controller integrated in the same chip. The integrated Mobile Intel NM10 Express Chipset on the N450, moreover, consumes less power than the Intel 945GSE Express Chipset, the chipset used in most other Aspire One netbooks.

Overall, the Aspire One 532h lasts longer than other Aspire One netbooks. Specifically, a 6-cell Aspire One 532h netbook can have a battery life of up to 10 hours. On the other hand, other Aspire One netbooks with comparable battery configurations typically have only around 6 to 7 hours of battery life.

Additionally, a 3-cell Aspire One 532h netbook can last up to 4 hours on full charge. In contrast, other 3-cell Aspire One netbooks typically last only from 2.5 to 3 hours on full charge.

Performance advantage: The Intel Atom N450 is a single-core processor with a 64-bit instruction architecture set, whereas the N270 and the N280 are single-core processors with a 32-bit instruction architecture set. This gives the Aspire One 532h a performance advantage over other Aspire One netbooks to date.

It must be noted, though, that this performance advantage is slight and subtle. The 62-bit IA processor on the AO532h does not make this netbook twice as fast as other Aspire Ones. For simple netbook applications (internet browsers, word processing, etc), you won’t even feel the advantage. You will, however, find it easier to use different applications simultaneously and to keep multiple internet browser tabs open.

If you’re using applications that require greater data storage (i.e. 64-bit integer applications), the performance advantage of the 64-bit IA processor in the AO532h will definitely make itself felt.

Important note: The AO532h netbook can give you significantly better performance than other Aspire One netbooks if you successfully manage to upgrade this system’s RAM from 1GB to 2GB. The 64-bit architecture of the Intel Atom N450 will give you better performance by making more memory available for computations, but you’ll benefit from this only if you have a bigger RAM.

The Price Advantage

The owners of Aspire One 532h netbooks are raving about the low price of this netbook. Just think: for more or less $300, you get a Pineview netbook that will last up to 10 hours on the road and has 64-bit-application support. Cool, huh?

So, do you want an Aspire One 532h? Know that there are 22 different versions of this netbook in the US. To find out which one you should get, use the Quick Selection Guide section or the Aspire One 532h netbooks guide and comparison chart.

The Aspire One 532h Netbooks: A Quick Selection Guide

This section organizes all 22 Aspire One 532h netbook variants according to a particular specification. You can use this quick selection guide to quicken your search for the perfect Aspire One 532h netbook. Simply choose a deciding specification then choose from among the different versions that have your priority spec.

You can also use this guide to confirm whether or not a specific AO532h netbook variant you’ve been eyeing indeed has your priority specification – say, your preferred color, storage capacity, battery life, or operating system.

The Ferrari One 200 is another “notebook-netbook” from Acer. Just like the Acer Aspire One 751h, this netbook has an 11.6-inch display and a keyboard with full-size keys. Just like the Aspire One 751h, the Ferrari One 200 is for people who are tired of endless vertical scrolling and tiny screens.

The Ferrari: Acer’s Prestige Netbook Brand

Acer Ferrari One 200-1799

If you know your netbooks (specifically Acer netbooks), you know that Acer offers its US consumers two netbook lines. They are the following:

Aspire One (e.g. Aspire One D250, Aspire One P531h, Aspire One 531h)

Ferrari One (e.g. Ferrari One 200)

The Aspire One is Acer’s mainstream netbook brand. The Ferrari One, on the other hand, is Acer’s prestige netbook line. Yes, indeed. Aspire One is the timid sister and Ferrari One is Aspire One’s racy sister (or brother, if you insist).

The Ferrari One has a very distinctive style that any notebook connoisseur would immediately identify. I’m talking about the red (really red) netbook cover, some matching red highlights on the sides, the four rubber stands that look like miniature wheels, the little yellow shield decal (Scudetto Ferrari) on the cover and on the palm rest, the carbon fiber/checkered pattern on the palm rest, the Ferrari One branding on the touchpad buttons, the Ferrari wallpapers and screensavers, and the revving sound of a Ferrari engine that comes on when the system is booting up.

(More details on Ferrari One’s style on Acer Ferrari One: Some Things to Keep in Mind).

Everything about the Ferrari One 200 is screaming “Look at me! I’m a Ferrari!” This is the perfect netbook for people who:

love cars (especially fast cars, especially a speedy Ferrari car)

love the color red

love being the center of attention

want a netbook that doubles up as a fashion accessory

some or all of the above

Acer Ferrari One 200: Beyond Prestige

All right, so I may be understating its merits a bit. The Ferrari One 200 is also actually for people who want a premium netbook product – and can afford to have it (stop with the cattiness already). The Ferrari One 200 is just so loud (both visually and auditorially) that it’s hard to get past its exterior and appreciate its powerhouse interior.

The Ferrari One 200 is actually great under the hood (pun definitely intended). It stands up to the promise of power and speed that the Ferrari automobile brand invokes. The following are some of the things that set it apart:

Dual-core processor – yes, a first for Acer and a first for netbooks; the Ferrari One 200 is definitely a speedy little racer

The Vision platform – this is first netbook from Acer with an AMD platform/processor

Integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics – better gaming experience than all other Aspire One netbooks

HD Video playback – can really play HD videos, although there may be problems streaming HD video from some sites

Sony Philips Digital Interface – great for transmitting uncompressed audio (digital audio out support, in other words)

Dolby Home Theater audio enhancement – the works, including optimized Dolby headphone technology

The ATI XGP port – another first for Acer; this facilitates a Ferrari One’s connection to an Acer DynaVivid Graphics Dock, which boosts the Ferrari’s graphics performance, extends its configuration options and lets you output display to multiple monitors.

Ferrari One 200: The Best from Acer… But

The Ferrari One 200 is definitely (IMHO) one of the best netbooks from Acer to date (at least in the US). If you want the best Acer netbook that money can buy, this is it.

There are a few things you should know, however. (Here come the cons; brace yourself!) The Ferrari One 200-1799 (currently the only Ferrari variant officially distributed by Acer in the US) lacks Bluetooth connectivity. This is not a deal-breaker, but still, you know how much greater it would be if it comes with Bluetooth already built-in.

Also, if you’re buying a netbook for its battery-life advantage, think again before you get a Ferrari One 200. The Ferrari One 200 may be fast and powerful, but it lacks endurance. Under normal operations (definitely no ATI XGP system in use), you’ll get only around 5 hours of life from its 6-cell Li-Ion battery. You’ll get much less battery juice at full throttle.

If you are a gamer and want the Ferrari One 200 for its superior graphics performance, remember that such superiority is relative. Among netbooks, yes, it beats most other netbooks (and will probably beat the rest with the DynaVivid Graphics Dock connected). However, among all gaming systems, it still provides far from the best gaming experience.

Once again, we come back to the fact that the battery life advantage is the main reason people get a netbook. Netbooks generally offer a longer battery life than notebooks; those who already have notebooks actually get a netbook so they will have a portable system that lasts longer on battery power. In the case of the Ferrari One, however, this advantage is sorely missing. Under heavy use, the Ferrari One can probably give you 2 hours (3.5 hours, tops) of battery life.

Therefore, if you’re in the market for a portable gaming system that would replace your notebook/desktop gaming station, there really is no point in getting a Ferrari One 200. The battery of the Ferrari One 200 will give you just about the same battery life as your gaming notebook. So why replace your gaming notebook at all?

Of course, it’s an entirely different proposition if you’re a gamer who wants a netbook, has cash to burn and has a great love for red, Ferrari and attention to satisfy as well.

The Ferrari One 200 Specifications

Currently, only one Ferrari One 200 variant is available to the US market. This is the Ferrari One 200-1799 (Acer FO200-1799), and it has the following specifications:

Where to Buy the Ferrari One 200-1799

The Acer FO200-1799 is available for sale online at Amazon.com. It’s currently selling for $599.99.

Recommended Accessories

To get the best out of your Acer Ferrari One 200-1799, get an Acer DynaVivid Graphics Dock. I can’t find an online store that sells this product right now, but it’s rumored to be selling just under $200. Be sure to inquire with your local Acer dealer about it.

You should also properly kit out your Acer Ferrari One netbook by buying its matching Acer Accessory Kit. Acer’s Aspire One 751h is Bigger and Thinner

The Aspire One netbook doesn’t just look like any notebook. [...]

Aspire One 751h is Acer’s “notebook-netbook.” Aspire One 751h looks like a notebook computer with its 11.6-inch display and full-size keyboard. This netbook is worth checking out if you’re tired of mini-size screens, mini-size keyboards and endless vertical scrolling.

Acer’s Aspire One 751h is Bigger and Thinner

The Aspire One netbook doesn’t just look like any notebook. What it looks like is an ultra-thin notebook. Believe it. Aspire One 751h is only 1-inch thick.

Compare this to the AOD250, Acer’s mainstream netbook. With the AO751h, you get more screen real estate with no extra bulk.

Is it heavier? Sure. At 2.8 lbs, the AO751h with a 3-cell battery is around 0.4 lbs heavier than the AOD250 with a 3-cell battery. At 3.0 lbs, the 6-cell AO751h netbook is also heavier by 0.2 lbs than the 6-cell AOD250. The cool thing about the 751h, though, is that you may feel the weight – but you won’t see it.

Aspire One 751h 11.6-inch netbook

The biggest plus point for the Aspire One 751h is obviously the big display and the full-size keyboard. The glossy screen is great, and you’ll enjoy watching videos on it. The keyboard size is perfect. The touchpad is large enough; it’s definitely easier to do finger acrobatics on the 751h than on the D250.

The AO751h also actually looks better than other Aspire Ones. The battery pack slots in and slants down at the back of the unit, right below where the lid is hinged to the base. I bet some people don’t like this. Before you make this about the battery pack, however, just remember that it is this feature that gives the 751h it signature slimmer look. So there.

But the AO751h is Still a Netbook

Acer’s Aspire One 751h may look like a netbook, but it still is very much a netbook. A peek under the chassis will reveal pretty much the same hardware you’ll find in most netbooks.

The AO751h is not meant to perform like a netbook, as most people expecting notebook-like prowess from it were disappointed to find out. If you’d like to know what the 751h is all about, this just about sums it up.

Acer Aspire One 751h is for people who want a netbook with a bigger display and a full-size keyboard.

Aspire One 751h is not just Larger; it is also Louder

If you ask Acer, the AO751h is so much more than just a netbook with a large display. With the AO751h, you can listen to 5.1-channel audio using a pair of headphones. AO751h has Dolby’s proprietary optimized headphone technology.

But…

While this is true (and the AO751h netbook can and does deliver superior audio), this is not enough to make the AO751h stand out. In fact, if

a) you are in the market for an Acer netbook, and

b) optimized Dolby headphone technology is one of your decision points,

you should check out not only the AO751h but also Aspire One D250, Aspire One 531h and Aspire One P531h – all of which have optimized Dolby headphone technology like that onboard the AO751h.

Acer AO751h: The Drawbacks

Ironically, Acer put an Intel Atom Z520 on the 751h. Atom is the standard processor for netbooks, but the Z520 is definitely the underachieving sibling in the Intel Atom brood. Consequently, the 751h is rather slow. No, make that prone to freezing, hanging, etc.

The mouse button is also difficult to use. First, there’s only one of it underneath the touchpad. Second, it is so stiff some hard clicking is needed before it responds.

Want an Aspire One 751h netbook?

If you want to know which AO751h netbook is best, you can skip the chart. The answer’s right here.

Which AO751h is best?

Among the above choices, the best Aspire One 751h netbook version is the AO751h-1196. This netbook has the best possible configuration among the AO751h netbook versions. Its specifications are as follows:

Windows XP Professional – Better than the basic XP (Home Edition) with its enhanced security and networking features. Most people would also probably agree that Windows XP Professional is better than Windows Vista Home Basic. The Vista interface looks nicer, but Windows XP is a leaner and more mature platform.

250GB hard drive – More room for your files

2GB RAM – Certainly better than 1GB

6 cell-battery – Gives you around 7 hours of battery life under normal operating conditions

Bluetooth – The AO751h-1196 is one of the 2 (still available) AO751h netbook versions that come with built-in Bluetooth functionality

Best of all, the AO751h-1196 is one of the versions that Acer still manufactures. Aspire One 751h-1401 is the other one.

Want the AO751h-1196? It is available at Amazon.

If you’re not convinced that the AO751h-1196 is the best or if you want to make your own comparison of all 751h versions, proceed to the AO751h netbooks guide and comparison chart below.

Using the Netbooks Comparison and Guide

There are four sections to this guide.

The first section tells you the names of the different Aspire One 751h versions. Use this to familiarize yourself with your options.

The second section details the basic specifications shared by the different Aspire one 751h netbooks. Use this to confirm whether or not the AO751h is the right Acer netbook for you.

The third section sums up the differences among the AO751h netbook versions. Use this to create a list of your preferred specifications. Would you like a 3-cell or 6-cell battery? Would you like a white or blue netbook? And so on and so forth for every category in which different AO751h versions vary.

The fourth section gives you a ready comparison of the different versions. Use this to choose your Aspire One 751h netbook. Using the list you’ve drawn up using the third section, refer to the matrix in section 4 to find the netbook version that has all your preferred specifications.

The Acer Aspire One 751h Netbooks Guide and Comparison Chart

I. The Different Acer Aspire One D250 Netbook Versions

As per the US Acer website, there are only two AO751h versions available to US consumers. They are:

AO751h-1196

AO751h-1401

Nevertheless, a quick Google search should reveal that the A0751h originally had more than two flavors. I could find traces of at least 21 other versions online. Among these, 7 are still currently available in at least one online store. They are the following:

AO751h-1145

AO751h-1192

AO751h-1259

AO751h-1273

AO751h-1545

AO751h-1885

AO751h-1948

The Aspire One P531h is another 10.1-inch netbook model from Acer. You’ll be glad to know that if your heart is set on an Aspire One P531h netbook, you won’t have to choose from among 57 versions as you would have if you are thinking of getting an Acer Aspire One D250. In fact, customers from the US don’t have a choice, so to speak, as there is only one version of the Aspire One P531h netbook.

The only version of the P531h netbook is known formally as the Aspire One P531h-1791. Since I have no AOP531h versions to compare, I have decided to compare the Aspire One P531h to the (almost) similarly named Aspire One 531h netbook instead.

Netbooks Comparison: The Aspire One P531h Compared to the Aspire One 531h

Acer Aspire One P531h-1791

What sets the Acer Aspire One P531h netbook apart from the Acer Aspire One 531h? Well, aside from the preceding letter P, the P531h differs from the 531h in several subtle ways.

Designed for professionals

The Aspire One P531h netbook is for professionals or business persons. This netbook comes pre-installed with a Windows XP Professional (SP3) operating system, but it can handle a Windows Vista Business OS as well.

On the other hand, the Aspire One 531h netbook comes with the Windows XP Home Edition operating system, although one version (the AO531h-1077) ships out with a Windows 7 Starter OS.

A hefty RAM onboard

While the AO531h netbook’s RAM can be upgraded to 2GB, the AO531h-1077’s RAM is already at 2GB. This should make this netbook less “sticky” for those who’d prefer the heavy Vista OS. This also makes the AOP531h ideal for those who don’t want to buy an extra memory module or those who would like their netbook to come with a 2-GB RAM right out of the box.

Built-In Bluetooth connectivity

You can immediately send and receive files through Bluetooth with the AOP531h-1791 netbook’s built-in Bluetooth connectivity. Unless you have the AO531h-1077 version, you’d have to have a Bluetooth dongle to do the same with an AO531h netbook.

No 3G

Unfortunately, the Aspire One P531h netbook does not have an inbuilt 3G modem. This rather defeats the AOP531h’s purpose. The P531h is supposed to be “the professional netbook” from Acer. If it’s to become that, shouldn’t it have internet connectivity whenever, wherever? The P531h should have 3G support – but it doesn’t.

If you have a wireless plan with a 3G network, then you should probably get the Aspire One 531h, all three versions of which come with built-in 3G hardware. Of course, if you have an external 3G modem from your 3G network provider, then you shouldn’t have a problem using 3G with the AOP531h.

Bigger, bulkier and heavier

That’s right. If you want a smaller, thinner and lighter netbook, the 531h is a better deal than its professional counterpart. An Aspire One 531h netbook with a 6-cell battery pack measures 10.04 x 7.2 x 1.06 inches and weighs 2.5 lbs. On the other hand, a similarly configured Aspire One P531h (i.e. an AOP531h with a 6-cell battery) measures 10.21 x 8.12 x 1.3 inches and weighs 2.8 lbs.

So, which netbook model is better: the Aspire One P531h or the Aspire One 531 h?

If you want Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista Business, a 2GB RAM and built-in Bluetooth connectivity, then you should go for the AOP531h netbook.

If you want built-in 3G hardware and a netbook that is lighter, thinner and smaller, you should pick the AO531h or any other Acer Aspire One netbook model (check out the AOD250 netbooks).

The Acer Aspire One P531h Netbook Specifications

As mentioned earlier, there is only one version of the Aspire One P531h that is currently available in the US. This is the Aspire One P531h-1791. Following are the technical specifications of this netbook.

Display: 10.1″ WSVGA (1024 x 600) TFT LCD

Where to Buy

You can get the Acer Aspire One P531h from a lot of places online. You can Google its part number, LU.S9206.092. Or you can simply head on over to the trusted online marketplace, Amazon.com where the Acer Aspire One P531h-1791 currently sells for $424.29 (free shipping).

Note: The Amazon product listing for the AOP531h-1791 says Aspire One 531h but don’t be misled. You can check the part number LU.S9206.092 to confirm that it IS an Aspire One P531h-1791 netbook, not an AO531h netbook.

Since Intel officially introduced the next-generation Intel Atom N450 processors, netbook manufacturers had been announcing their Pine Trail netbooks left, right and center. I’m sure the list will balloon within the next few weeks, but so far, here are the Pine Trail-powered netbooks I’ve heard about while doing my usual rounds.

Asus Eee PC 1005P, 1005PE: Not surprising that Asus will be the first to push their new Pine Trail netbooks into eager hands. So far, it runs the same way a usual netbook will run, but battery life is better.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10: It’s still the Inspiron Mini 10, but the Pine Trail version will apparently include GPS, HD display, and TV tuner. It will be on sale in the US on January 5th for $299.

Fujitsu LifeBook MH380: Reviewers say that it has a higher resolution display than Fujitsu’s earlier model.

HP Mini 210: No official word from HP but there are leaked promo shots and whispers and mis-posted product listings.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3, S10-3t: The S10-3 is Lenovo’s 3rd gen netbooks and the S10-3t is a convertible tablet model with a multitouch screen. It’s expected to be announced (or make its debut) on January 2010.

Samsung N150, NB30: Samsung hasn’t made any formal announcements yet, but since these are their latest contributions to the netbook market (and yet-to-be-released), they’d most likely have Pine Trail processors.

MSI Wind netbooks, MSI Wind U135: MSI Wind has four netbooks, although MSI isn’t very clear as to what differentiates one from the other though. We can also expect nettops and all-in-one desktops from the company next year.

I’m sure I’ve missed mentioning a few netbooks, but allow me to scour the web for more news and updates. I heard that Intel is expecting as many as 80 Pine Trail models, so we’ll be adding to the list as soon as we find them.

What do you think? Is Pine Trail something to look forward to?

The Aspire One 531h is another 10.1-inch netbook from Acer. The other 10.1-inch Acer Aspire One netbook models are the Aspire One D250, the Aspire One D150, and the Aspire One P531h.

Customers from the US can choose from three versions of the Acer Aspire One 531h netbook. This AO531h netbooks comparison and guide explores the differences and similarities among all three netbook versions. Read on to learn which Aspire One 531h netbook version is best.

Aspire One 531h: The 3G Netbook from Acer

It has 3G and it is black – this, in a nutshell, sets the Acer Aspire One 531h apart from the rest of the Acer netbook pack. The built-in 3G hardware is a great idea. The black color for all versions is not so great. Does “3G netbook” stand for “black netbook?” It must to somebody somewhere in the humongous Acer dynasty.

Why get an Acer Aspire One 531h? If you want or need internet connectivity whenever, wherever, the Aspire One 531h netbook is for you. When you’re at a hotspot, use the Wi-Fi. Otherwise, use the 3G network. Just sign up for a wireless data plan with a 3G network to take advantage of the onboard 3G hardware. The following are the Wireless Wide Area Network specifications for Acer 3G netbooks:

WWAN: UMTS/HSPA at 850/1900/2100 MHz and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), upgradeable to 7.2 Mb/s HSDPA and 2 Mb/s HSUPA, supporting receiver diversity and equalizing at 2100 MHz (for 3G models)

The Acer Aspire One 531h comes in three different flavors – all of them in black, of course! Which AO531h version is right for you? Find out by reading our Aspire One 531h netbooks comparison and guide.

Using this AO531h guide and netbooks comparison chart

As with all other Acer netbooks comparison guides, this Aspire One 531h guide is divided into four sections.

Refer to the first section to find out the names of the different AO531h versions available to the US market.

Go to the second section to check the basic specifications of the Acer Aspire One 531h netbook. The second section lists the features shared by all versions of the Aspire One 531h netbook.

Next, refer to the third section to find out how the different Aspire One 531h netbooks vary. The third section summarizes the differences among all AO531h netbook versions.

Finally, refer to the fourth section to choose your netbook. The fourth section is the netbooks comparison chart. To use the chart, simply choose the Aspire One 531h netbook version that has all your preferred specifications.

For the girly netbooks users, you’re not neglected by netbook manufacturers. Acer, HP and Samsung all have pretty-in-pink netbooks for you that are light on the pockets but heavy when it comes to work, work, work.

Acer AOD250-1962 is the 10.1″ pink netbook from Acer. It has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1024MB DDR2 RAM, and 160GB SATA HD. This unit from Amazon.com comes with Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3, Microsoft Works 8.5 with Office Home and Student 2007 Trial, and McAfee Internet Security Suite (60-day Trial).

The Acer Aspire D250 is one of the more reliable netbooks out in the market today. The D250 with Windows 7 (or review of which is here) has constantly been on Amazon’s Top Ten Netbooks list. And the one similar to the pink D250 listed on Amazon (with Windows XP) rated high on our reviews.

The Acer AOD250-1962 is available for $299.99 $289.99.

Samsung is one of the reliable netbook makers, and the Samsung NC10-11GP is one of the top Samsung netbooks ever released, although it has already been discontinued to make way for the newer Samsung N140. Still, it’s not a bad choice if you want to get one.

The pink NC10 comes with an Intel Atom processor N270, 1 GB DDR2 RAM 800 MHz, 160 GB Hard Drive, 2.5-inch, Microsoft XP Home with Service Pack 3, and a 6-Cell Lithium Ion Battery. It’s a few pounds heavier than the Acer Aspire D250 but at 4.65 pounds, it’s not that heavy.

The Samsung NC10 is still available from Amazon.com for $389.99.

If we’re going to talk about color though, the “pink” I really appreciate is the lavender-ish HP Mini 110-1037NR. It’s a darker pink than the D250 and the NC10, plus it’s the keyboard that’s pink rather than the lid or the chassis. With the NC10, I’d be concerned with the white keyboard because I’m OCD enough to not want to touch the keys unless I’m sure my fingers are clean LOL

It also comes with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive, and Genuine Windows XP Home (SP3). It’s the most expensive of the three though, selling for $473.00 $399.99. But you have to consider that it has a 6-cell battery while the cheaper Acer Aspire D250 only comes with a 3-cell Lithium Ion battery that would last for 3 hours. The 6-cell batt will last you 6 hours plus on a single charge.

The HP Mini 110 also comes with Windows 7 Starter (HP Mini 110-1127NR) although it’s currently out of stock. This made me do a doubletake because it’s actually less expensive than the one with Windows XP, selling for $379.99. It also comes with batteries that could last for 8 hours. Still wondering why it’s out of stock?

All in all, you have great choices if you’re thinking of getting a pink netbook. If it’s up to me, I’d scoop up an HP Mini 110 inspite of the price difference. But if it’s budget you’re worried about, I think the HP Mini 110-1127NR (Mini 110 with Windows 7) is your best bet. It’s not as cheap as the D250, but you get it with Windows 7 AND a better performing battery
