It’s one of the first and few notebooks to have a distinctive 12.5″ screen. It comes in three colors: lime, pink and white, and will cost upwards of a thousand dollars, at least if you convert it from Korean won. Price would most likely lower once, and if, it makes its way to the States.

The LG Optimus Pad might not make it out until the first quarter of 2011. The company is apparently plannng to wait until Google releases a more tablet-friendly operating system. The Google Honeycomb is set to launch soon after the Google Android Gingerbread version.

According to leaked specs, the tablet might also come with an 8.9″ display, and a dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip. Now if LG is planning to be revolutionary when it comes to tablets by waiting for the Honeycomb, they might also want to wait for NVIDIA to come up with a new version of Tegra chip since by that time, the one they have on their tablets might be a bit outdated, you know, pretty much like getting a netbook with an Intel Atom Z chip. Even with Google Android 3.0, a tablet with an old chip is still a tablet with an old chip. Especially since LG wants to be revolutionary in the tablet market and have many “firsts”.

Every other company is releasing a tablet or a dual-core netbook and LG isn’t about to be the last one to. They’re releasing a new, dual-core netbook version of their still new LG X140.

The updated version will sport a 1.5Hz Intel Atom N550 dual-core processor aside from a 10.1″, 1024 x 600 pixel display, and 250GB HD, along with an island-style keyboard and touchpad. The LG X140 is available in Asia and the Middle East.

If you recall, the older version of this model has a 1366 x 768 pixel display and 320GB HDD. Wonder if this lower end (but with a newer processor) version will ever see the light of day in the US.

The LG X140 is a 10″ netbook that has a little more to offer than other netbooks if you put it side-by-side with them.

The average netbook will have a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1024 x 600 pixel display and 160 or 250GB HDDs. The LGX140 has a 1366 x 768 pixel display, a 320GB hard drive and a 1.83GHz Intel Atom N475 processor. Looks really tempting on paper, but the choice is taken away from US consumers as LG will be launching the netbook in Asia and the Middle East, but not in the US. Or Europe for that matter. Whether they will never introduce it, then there lies the question. Price is said to be about $500.

Here are the technical specs of the LG X140:

Intel Atom N475 1.83GHz processor

10.1″h (1,366 x 768) display

Integrated graphics

1GB RAM

320GB HDD

Multitouch trackpad, 802.11n and Bluetooth

6-cell battery (up to 9 hours)

Windows 7 Starter

The LG X140 comes in white, pink and black.

Still, it looks pretty cool, considering that the World Cup is kicking off this month. Besides, guys should be able to have options when it comes to designer netbooks aside from the pricey, car-themed ones, don’t you think?

From Corning:

Corning Gorilla glass is an environmentally friendly alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass designed specifically to function as a protective window for portable display devices. What really sets Gorilla glass apart from the competition is that it’s both strong and damage resistant.

Okay, two words that had me do a double-take when I read them: “Corning” and “Gorilla”. I thought Corning made… well, plates. Apparently, I don’t know Corning that well. A quick visit to their site showed that they pretty much make anything from glass kitchenware to glass windows for space shuttles.

Now, “Gorilla” is not the big, hairy primate, but “Gorilla Glass”, a thin, lightweight, damage-resistant glass used in cellphones, tablets, laptops and netbooks.

The LG X300 comes with a 2.0GHz Intel Atom Z550 processor (Menlow), with 2GB memory and 128GB SSD, Windows 7 Home Premium and a spare 2-cell battery for up to 7 hours of battery life on a single charge. It is set to launch in Asia this month, and while prices will, of course, vary from country-to-country, initial price in Korea is the equivalent of more than a thousand USD.

Is that because of the Gorilla Glass then? We’ll see.
