HP may have discontinued their HP TouchPads but they’re still working on the webOS. They’ve just released the HP webOS 3.0.5. Update your device by going to the settings tab then checking for system updates. Now if you’re running Google Android on your TouchPad, you might want to think twice about it. Installing webOS on your device might overwriteMoboot and give you problems with booting back into Android.

Here’s a rundown of the updates:

• Faster switching between Day, Week, and Month views, and faster event display in Calendar.
• Faster scrolling when reading an email message.
• Email attachments are now saved with draft messages.
• Added sender photos and IM presence indicators in Email.
• Improved stability when watching video in the Web app.
• Improved handling of MP3s that are transferred from a computer using USB Drive mode.
• Added a dedicated view of contacts available for a video call, for quicker setup of a video call.
• New alert when video quality might be lower because of network issues.
• When typing, pressing the space bar twice inserts a period. This can be toggled on and off.
• Auto-correction can be turned off directly from the onscreen keyboard.
• Added support for HTTP Live Streaming.

The HP TouchPad is still available from Amazon in 16GB ($286.00) and 32 GB ($309.99) models. Both models come with 9.7-inch diagonal LED backlit multitouch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-CPU APQ8060 1.2GHz processor and HP webOS 3.0.

This is really nice of Amazon. Word is that they’re giving automatic refunds for the price difference for the HP TouchPad even if you got yours as far back as July 21st.

Although I’m thinking if you bought yours after the company has put the HP TouchPad on sale, you might not get the rebate. HP has encouraged retailers to refund the price difference between the original $399/$499 price tags and the $99/$149 price for the 16GB/32GB models of the HP TouchPad. Encouraged, but not obliged. So +1 for you, Amazon.

As per HP’s press release, it looks like the company is pulling the plug on webOS as well as accompanying devices such as the very recently launched HP TouchPad and webOS phones. The TouchPad has received less than enthusiastic reviews and hasn’t been selling very well although it sounded like HP had been building future plans around the webOS.

HP did aquire Palm last year to the tune of $1.2 billion which had looked promising, so this decision to kill webOS might be a little surprising. You can’t help but hope that HP would do something about it. Maybe get more app developers, push more updates. Sure it’s a tough road with iOS and Android dominating the market, but no need to give it up just like that, right?

This explains the price cuts that the HP Touchpad had been getting left, right and center. As of now, you can get a 16GB unit from Amazon for $399.99. A 32GB model costs $482.53. But can you imagine how cheap it will get once HP totally drops support for the platform? This might not be a bad idea for a secondary tablet, you know.

HP is offering an instant $100 off on their WiFi TouchPads which mean you can get the 16GB model for $399.99 and the 32GB model for $499.99. This deal was made available on the 5th and is still up until today at HP’s website.

I also checked Amazon.com for you and saw that they’ve also lowered their prices for the tablets. The HP TouchPad Wi-Fi 16 GB tablet also costs $399.99, while the 32GB variant is also $499.99.

The 9.7-inch tablet comes with a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core APQ8060 processor and runs HP’s WebOS.

If you haven’t heard yet. HP has released a software update for the HP TouchPad tablet with improvements on performance and security as well as some new features. While the feedback the HP tablet has received mostly mention that it felt a bit sluggish, the upgrade apparently will give it more speed.

HP did include speedier reaction time as far as apps such as email, photos and videos are concerned. The upgrade also allows better management of multiple email messages in draft and outbox views, better audio capabilities while multitasking, and faster calendar event creation. Amazon has dropped $70.00 from the price of the HP TouchPad WiFi Tablet (32GB). Originally, it’s $599.99 but you can get the 9.7″ tablet, now, for only $529.99.

You get a tablet with a 9.7″ LED backlit multitouch display, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core APQ8060 processor which runs HP webOS 3.0. It also comes with WiFi capability and Bluetooth.

It has gotten a generally good score from people who bought the tablet so you might want to check it out. Again, here’s the Amazon product page.

HP have just released the HP TouchPad tablet but they’ve already announced the near release of the newer, faster HP TouchPad 4G which will have a 1.5GHz qualcomm Snapdragon dual core processor and an HSPA+ modem which will work with AT&T’s wireless network. The current HP TouchPad only has WiFi capabilities and a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core chip.

The new model has some similar specs as the old one: a 9.7-inch, 1024 x 768 pixel capacitive touchscreen display and webOS 3.0, but the new model will come with 32GB of storage and integrated GPS.

There are no plans to update the WiFi model with a 1.5 GHz processor so if you haven’t gotten your TouchPad yet, you might want to hold out for the 4G version. The HP TouchPad Wi-Fi 32 GB is currently available from Amazon for $599.99 $570.58.

The HP TouchPad is literally just around the corner with it’s July 1st release and a number of local retailers already have working demo units. Looks like WalMart and Best Buy already have the tablet on display and folks around the country are already having a go at it.
