Latest news on the iPad 3 is that it will be released on February 24th, on Steve Jobs’ birthday. Now, according to DigiTimes, the iPad 3 release is moved even sooner, to iWorld which starts on the 26th of January.

They’re also going to be forgoing the rumored 7.85″ tablet in favor of the usual 9.7″ screen with a 1536 x 2048 pixel QXGA resolution. They’ve also included dual-LED light bars to strengthen the panels’ brightness. Looks like Apple is leaving the iPad 2 to compete with the Kindle Fire instead. The soaring sales of the Fire was rumored to be the catalyst as to why news of the 7.85″ Apple tablet came about.

The company also continues to contract Samsung for the quad-core A6 processors which will run the iPad 3 and Simplo Technology and Dynapack International Technology will handle the batteries which will have a capacity as high as 14,000 milliampere-hour (mAh).

But of course, these are just rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Okay, so Apple usually releases their products in the Spring, but when rumors that Foxconn has defered their employees’ Lunar New Year Holiday which falls on January 23rd, 2011, it fueled the speculation that Apple might be pushing for a February release for the newest member of the iPad family.

A local Chinese-language newspaper reported Friday that iPad3 might be launched on Feb. 24 to mark the anniversary of the birth of Apple’s late co-founder Steve Jobs.

Citing sources close to Taiwanese makers in the iPad3 supply chain, the Economic Daily News said the gadget could be launched in mid-first quarter of next year or by the end of next March.

Production for the iPad 3 is already in full swing, and a February release, on the 24th to be precise right on the late, great Steve Jobs’ birthday, makes it touching and sentimental. Last year, the new models of the MacBook Pro had also been released on Jobs’ birthday.

Think that the Apple iPad 2 is way out of your budget? Then what about an Apple iPad 2 “Gold History Edition” from GoldStriker which costs a jaw-dropping £5,000,000.00 or 8.1 Million dollars.

If you’re thinking what I’m thinking, what the H could possibly make an iPad cost that much.

“Material spec, 16.5 ct diamonds & 8.5ct single diamond, 57 grams of T-REX bone, 750 grams of Ammolite stone and 2000 grams of solid 24ct Gold.”

Yep, you read that right. Apart from the diamonds, which will already cost you, you also get 57 grams of a splintered section of a 65 million-year-old T-Rex (yes, the dinosaur) thigh bone shaved into a front frame made of 75 million-year-old Ammolite which is THE oldest rock in the world. So, that’s why it’s called History edition. The gold comes from the 2000 grams of 24 ct gold that will cover the rear panel. The Apple logo will also be diamond-encrusted. Fifty-three 12.5 carats of ‘I’F’ Flawless diamonds.

Only two units of this will be made so… er… you… might want to… hurry?

Verizon will start selling the Apple iPad in a while (October 28th), and for some of us who started thinking that, hey, wait a second, will the iPad work with Verizon’s 3G mobile broadband technology? Apparently, they’ve thought of a work-around. Instead of reworking the itty-bitty pieces inside the iPad, Verizon will offer a MiFi 2200 mobile wireless hotspot with the tablet’s WiFi version. Just turn on the MiFi when you’re not near a WiFi access point. That also means you can use it with machines other than the iPad. Cool, huh?

The 16GB version of the iPad with MiFi is $629.99; the 32GB is $729.99; and the 64GB model goes for as high as $829.99. You do have the option of getting an iPad without MiFi, of course, but only WiFi models will be available for $499.99 and $699.99.

The contracts are month-to-month. You can terminate whenever you want, and the plans are as follows:
* 1GB of data for $20
* 3GB of data for $35
* 5GB of data for $50.

AT&T will also start offering the iPad on October 28th, but most of you might be having second thoughts, especially if you’re in areas where AT&T has poor reception.

You can check more about Verizon’s iPad offering from this site.

But not everyone agrees with that including some of the online bookmakers who say the odds are against the iPad outdoing the iPhone.

If you’re getting your iPad as early as the first day of release (April 3rd), you’re going to have to wait for a few weeks before you can get the keyboard dock that you’re hoping to get with it.

According to SlashGear (and the Apple Store), the iPad Keyboard Dock, while already available for purchase, will only start shipping in mid-April.

Other iPad accessories, such as the iPad case ($39), the iPad Dock Connector to VGA adapter ($29) and the iPad Dock ($29) will all ship on April 3rd, but not the keyboard of the USB Power Adapter ($29) which will ship in late April. Is it just me or is Apple pushing back the shipping dates of the more important iPad accessories.

I can’t imagine typing comfortably on the tablet itself, with you having to hold it at an angle if you want to use both hands. If you’re holding it up, I can’t imagine typingg on it the way you type on your iPhone. Holding your iPhone is okay but holding a 10″ pad and typing with your thumbs just screams finger cramps. Or maybe, Apple is just telling us that, hey! The iPad can be used for typing documents but it is, primarily, a device designed more for viewing than input.

The first commercial for Apple’s iPad made its debut at the Oscars last night, and what I noticed is that it’s a huge iPod Touch that is perfect for reading books and newspapers.

Typing and working on? Not so much. You’re going to have to sit with your knees bent, or your legs lifted to be able to use the iPad as a conventional computer/netbook/laptop. You won’t be able to just put it flat on your lap, or even on a tabletop. I’m thinking that’s going to make typing awkward.

But still, it looks great. That, coming from a girl who loves her iPod Touch.
