Review: Toshiba NB305 – good for typing

The guys over at Slashgear reviewed the Toshiba NB305, the Intel N450 Pineview bearing version of Toshiba’s line of netbooks. They didn’t find anything special about the netbook, and neither do it’s specs stand out. The major plus points are the wide chiclet keyboard and XL touchpad. Makes input of data very easy. But performance wise, you might as well spend $295 on an Asus 1005HA than shell out $350-$400 on this one. On the other hand, the NB305 comes in great colors (black, blue, white, brown!). Full details after the break.

Toshiba NB305 Features & Drawbacks

  • decent performance, though the N450 processor isn’t that much of a step above the N270 and N280 processors
  • large mutitouch touchpad. +1 for the touchpad size, this is something the previous model, the Toshiba NB205 too impressed us with
  • wide chiclet keyboard
  • nice design with a textured outer chassis
  • uses lots of plastic (disappointing since Asus is now releasing aluminum chassis netbooks)
  • like other N450 processor, GMA3150 chipset bearing netbooks, it can’t handle 720p video playback
  • the NB305 is also missing high resolution display
  • battery doesn’t jut out, but gives the netbook a slight – nice -uplift.

Bottom line

The Toshiba NB305 isn’t a bad buy. Certainly, you can get better netbooks out there. But if you’re smitten by the design, and if you’re a writer/blogger who wants to write on the go, the large keyboard and touchpad make this netbook well worth your buy.
