Review: New Samsung N150 (PineTrail)

The Samsung N150 is now available for pre-order in a host of gorgeous tropical colors. In fact, Denise’s post on the colors available inspired this review. It’s available in Bermuda Blue, Caribbean Yellow and Flamingo Pink. Also in black matte, white, blue and red for the less adventurous of you. Unfortunately, nothing really stands out about the N150 apart from the gorgeous colors. It’s another run of the mill netbook albeit one with the latest power-efficient (but not power-inducing) N450 Intel Atom processor.

At $350-$360, it’s totally worth it if you’re more concerned about how your netbook looks in your handbag than how it works on your lap ;)

Features & Drawbacks

Preparing for the upcoming summer with awesome Tropic Colors

  1. Non-reflective Matte screen
  2. Cool colored lines along the edges
  3. Cramped Keyboard – it ain’t island-style which is quite sad. Doesn’t even have cool innovations like the line of new Dell Mini 10s
  4. Low resolution – at 1024 x 600
  5. Power button at front -  instead of a push-button it’s a sliding button which I imagine would be annoying and lead to many accidental power offs especially for all of you who take the lap in laptop seriously ;)
  6. Light with a 6 cell battery – at 2.6lbs with a 4400mAh li-ion battery. That’s a little over 5 hours. The low weight makes this quite atractive though.

The video below gives  a very good look at the Samsung N150 from different angles.

Bottom line

The Samsung N150 looks great. Works so-so. Price is mediocre. You could get more out of an Asus 1005PE with it’s larger hard drive, longer battery life and lower price tag. Not a bad purchase in terms of performance (as compared to most netbooks) if you’re only interested in this for the colors — and you’re not alone, I’m seriously considering it for the same reason!
