Pre-view: Lenovo S10-3t Convertible (tablet-netbook)

The Lenovo S10-3t, Lenovo’s netbook convertible that swivels and and folds into a tablet is available for pre-order from Amazon for $500. Not a bad deal specs wise. Compare it to the Apple iPad which starts at $500 and goes up to $830 for the 3G-64GB version. And while you’re waiting in the pre-order period, keep an ear out for news about the cost of the Asus T10MT.

The guys at Netbook Choice recently posted an unboxing video on the Lenovo S10-3t netbook-convertible-tablet. Here’s a rundown of the netbook, and the video and tech specs are posted below.

Oddly (badly) shaped battery – the battery protrudes out of the back in a very unattractive noticeable way. Doesn’t look good, but it’s more functional to have it flat than to have it  jut out under the netbook – especially since the S10-3t is also a tablet and you’ll be using the netbook both from the front and turned around 180 degrees.

8 cell battery – good for 10 hours

Sturdy build – the netbook itself, the display unit and the swivel all look very sturdy. So swivel away – in the right direction.

Plenty of buttons along the bezel - couldn’t figure out what exactly they do, but I’m sure they’re meant to help with the touch & tablet experience

Keyboard keys color scheme – the S10-3t looks cute with the function keys in black and the rest in white

Miniature Touchpad - don’t just shush this point with an “I can handle it.” The touchpad looks terribly tiny. On second thought, only shush this point if you know you’ll be using the S10-3t primarily as a tablet.

Glossy display – it looks really shiny in the video, in a bad, not outdoor-friendly way
