PineView – Time to Lower your expectations?
I’ve been reading up on netbook reviews and netbooks new this weekend and there seems to be some negativity around Intel’s new PineView processing platform.
Our own blogger Denise mentioned that the MSI Wind U135 which runs on PineView doesn’t deliver a longer battery life than previous netbooks, despite the new power-effective processor. In fact, it delivers a paltry almost-6 hours on a 6 cell battery. Nothing like MSI Wind’s previous MSI U110 Eco which made headlines with it’s record 15 hour battery life. Or well, the Asus 1005HA‘s 10.5 hours.
Engadget noticed the opposite — an increase in battery life — in the 1005PE which comes with the Pine Trail N450 processor, but a not-so-noticeable increase in performance. It played 720p HD videos just fine, but stuttered when it came to 1080p. There’s also speculation about how Pine Trail will work nVidia Ion since the Intel GMA3150 chip is embedded on to the CPU unit itself.

We’ll find out more in January, when the Pine Trail netbooks are showed off at CES. Speaking of, CES, can you come any quicker!
