Android Tablet packs in awesome Pixel Qi display

Notion Ink’s tablet, named Adam, surely is the first of its kind. A 10″ Google Android running ultra thin portable god with a thickness of HALF AN INCH (0.55 to be exact) and a weight of 1.5lbs, it also packs in the awesome PixelQi 3qi LCD display and runs on nVidia Tegra 2.

No, you didn’t read that wrong. Let me repeat:

  • Pixel Qi 3qi display = amazing output at power consumption. You can opt for the high contrast e-Paper mode that works well outdoors in direct sunlight, or stick with the full color mode. You’ll be using 0.5watts and 2.5 watts respectively.
  • nVidia Tegra 2 = low power and high performance. The Tegra 2 chipset allows the Adam to play 1080p HD video seamlessly. It needs less power, so you’re guaranteed excellent battery life with this netbook.
  • eBook experience = pretty sweet. Comparable to other eInk eReaders, but you get faster refresh speeds with the Adam.
  • Netbook experience = low powered computing, amen. It runs Google Android and doesn’t have a keyboard. BUT you can surf the web and watch HD videos play flawlessly. You do the math.
  • Ultra-portable = 0.55″ thick. 1.5lbs heavy. 10″ display. Not bad for a tablet. Sure the advantage is it doesn’t have the keyboard-bulk of a netbook, but think about how great this would be for someone so used to large cumbersome notebooks and well, netbooks. But I digress.

The below video shows how quick it is to e-flip through e-books. It also shows the video output on the Adam, both in color and in ePaper (black and white) mode.

Other things you should know:

  • Standard 1024 x 600 display, but also comes with a 3072 x 600 mode when using the device in landscape mode.
  • Comes in a glossy finger print loving chassis.

The future of Adam could bring:

  • a better way of text input (the Adam guys plan to work on this)
  • optimized performance (Android 2.1 should bring in some good stuff)

More info will be available on the Notion Ink tablet at the Mobile World Congress in February. No word on price, though they promise it’ll be competitive. Rumor is it’ll be available in India by June 2010  for as low as $321.
