Netbooks Offer Great Utility For Computer Technicians

A netbook should be an essential item in any computer technician’s toolkit. Computer technicians already carry quite a bit in their toolkit, some with many CD wallets to carry miscellaneous drivers, test programs, their favourite utilities and more. However, with the right combination of a netbook and SD cards, they would save a lot of space and make their work kit so much lighter and smaller. It’s actually quite simple to do.

For example, a netbook would be a great asset for carrying testing software. All the various programs that are used for scanning for viruses, checking for spyware, diagnosing hardware and retrieving updates would all fit and could be handily stored on a netbook for easy access and utility. Many technicians would carry multiple USB flash drives or DVDs full of utilities and makes for a crowded toolbox.

Storage comes right on the heels of the point above. Instead of carrying bundles of CDs and DVDs, one could store all the necessary software on the hard drive, which typically range anywhere from 4GB Solid State Devices or 120GB and more in storage capacity. That certainly saves more than a dozen CDs and certainly many DVDs from cluttering up your carry around toolbox of essentials.

Of course, with all netbooks carrying wireless capabilities, if you are within range of a wireless hotspot, you can quickly fire up your web browser to look up and search for the relevant steps to achieve your set task and better troubleshoot your problem. There are many online references and forums at the typical technician’s disposal and this way there is no need to temporarily use virus and/or spyware infected PC to search for some answers, they will already be completely available at your fingertips.

In the case that a wireless hotspot is not available and a customer or client does not have a wireless router handy for your netbook to use, you can store many, many references, ebooks, user guides and help systems for when you need to know the exact setting, pin set up, obscure configuration or switch to make everything work right. You can store all your important references documents where they are instantly where you need them when you need them most.

If you do happen to have internet access on your netbook in some form or another, your netbook then turns into a fantastic communication tool. This means that when you need to contact a specialist in a certain area for those hard and obscure problems that just refuse to be solved, you have all the facilities of email, web access for forums, instant messengers, video conferencing and internet phone calls to get in touch.

But there are times when no settings or switches will help, and you just need to wipe the slate clean. In those times, having an easy and reliable method for data backup and restoration will come in very, very handy. A quick hook up of a hard drive via an adapter and connected via the netbook USB drive, you are able to safely and quickly backup anything important, do your reinstall and then quickly restore everything back to its original and healthy state.

A netbook is an absolute essential to a computer technician’s arsenal of utilities. Gone are the days when a technician would have to carry around a back breaking laptop just to do their work and help accomplish the task at hand. Save the headaches and frustration, the ever friendly, easy to use, light and powerful netbook is now at the ready and waiting to do the work set before it.
