Netbooks NOT here in time for Christmas

Christmas-Netbooks

Let’s face it. Christmas shopping costs a lot. There’s all the different people to shop for and if you’ve been good and been saving up, by all means check the deals we’ve featured and our gift ideas! :) But some of you might not be able to afford new netbooks until say… January. Good news for you lot – there will be new models out even after Christmas time, so you can scoff at all your friends with their new models and show off your even newer ones!

Let’s take a look at what’s manufacturin’

Asus 1201n with Ion

Asus’s nVidia GeForce 9400m Ion bearing netbook – this is the same graphics card as in the 13″ MacBooks.

The 12.1″ Asus 1210n was leaked in September and is expected to come out in the UK in December. The netbook comes  CULV features such as a dual core processor (1.6GHz Atom N330), 3GB RAM and 320GB HDD space. It’s a media-playhouse with the Ion and comes with high res 1366 x 768 to support all those HD videos. It will also come with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-loaded.

The 1210n is heavy at 3.1lbs. No availability on pricing. Since it’s competing with CULVs, it should be in the $550 – $800 price range (very top of head estimation).

Asus Smartbook

A 5″ to 7″ smartbook from Asus was supposed to start selling quarter 1 of 2010, but has been pushed back to Q2 2010. Knowing the nature of the industry — and the absence of the much coveted 10″ convertible Asus T10H — this date will probably be pushed back again.

The Smartbook will have a smartphone ARM-based processor, will probably run a lite OS such as Android and should be available in the $150-$200 range.

Lenovo Thinkpad X100e

Lenovo’s 12″ Thinkpad X100e netbook might very well be branded and sold as a CULV. The innards of the X100e are still unconfirmed. The netbook might come with an 1.6GHz AMD Neo processor with ATI Readeon graphics, OR, with a 1.4GHz Intel Centrino 2 processor with GMA graphics.

Like the Asus 1210n, it’ll come with 3GB of RAM (whcih means it’ll probably come with a non-starter version of Windows 7) and large capacity memory and storage. Word is it’ll come with a 1280×800 panel which doesn’t make sense since 1366 x 768 is all the rage with the HD crowd (basically everyone who likes HD videos, so almost everyone).

So there you have it. A smartbook & two heavy duty processing machines coming out post Christmas. So don’t fret if you need a new laptop (let’s face it the Thinkpad X100e and Asus 1210n will be more powerful than the avg. netbook) but can’t afford one yet. Hey, if you get cash gifts from family and loving aunts and uncles, you could even use those to get these babies.
