Netbooks-by-Color: Red Netbooks

I always thought that November is the time for fiery orange leaves and pumpkins and Thanksgiving turkey and fall. But for some people, November also means doing their early Christmas shopping. Personally, every time November rolls by, I list down Christmas goodies that I’d like to get from family and/or friends, or myself for Christmas. Kinda like a end-of-year, you-did-a-great-job gift for myself. I always ended up listing new gadgets though. Last year, I wanted an iPod. This year, it looks like a Windows 7 netbook will find it’s way to the top of my list.

Before I go off tangent and bore you with my holiday wish list, let me just get to the point. Since we’re doing a netbooks-by-color list, I figured it would be fun, and cheerful, to list down the nice red netbooks that would definitely add that great big Ho-HO to the HOlidays. So let’s dive right in.

ACER
I’ve realized for red netbooks, your best bet will come from Acer. Yup, the Acer AOD250, AOD150, and AO751h all come in different (battery-wise) variants of red.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 Ruby Red

The Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 is a 10.1″ Ruby Red netbook that comes with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB RAM and 160GB Harddrive, and Integrated 802.11b/g. With Windows XP and a 6 cell, 6.5 hour battery, it costs $325.99.

The Acer Aspire One AOD250-1116 also comes in Ruby Red and costs $329.00 $289.00, but only has three hours of battery life. The Acer Aspire One AOD250-1706 variant which comes with a 6-cell battery lasts longer at 7.5 hours, and is a bit pricier at $349.99 $339.99. Both machines come with 10.1″ 10.1″ WSVGA CrystalBrite LED Display, Intel GMA 950, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 Processors, 1024MB DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB SATA Hard Drive and Windows XP SP3.

The 11.6″ Acer Aspire One AO751h-1153 also comes in red. With a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 Processor, 1024MB DDR2 SDRAM Single Channel Memory and 160GB SATA Hard Drive, Windows XP and a 3-cell 2200 mAh battery than runs for a little over three hours, it will set you back $389.99.

If you have your heart set on a red netbook with Windows 7, Acer can also accommodate you there.

The 10.1″, 9 Hour Battery-running Acer AOD250-1838 comes with and Intel N280 Atom Processor and Windows 7 Starter is selling for $379.99 $359.99.

The Acer AOD250-1383 also comes with Windows 7 Starter and is cheaper at $349.99 $339.99, but comes with an 8-hour battery and a slightly slower N270 processor.

Even less expensive is the Acer AOD250-1325 at $329.99 $319.49. It’s the same 10.1″ netbook with Windows 7 Starter and an Intel N270 Atom, but will only run for about three hours on a single charge with the 3-cell Li-ion Battery that comes with it.

MSI
MSI will not be out-done, and they have a couple of good netbooks in red,

msi-wind-u123-red

The MSI U123-004US with the 9 Cell Battery that can run for as long as 9 hours is selling for $379.99 $359.97, and comes with an Intel Atom N280 Processor, Windows XP SP3, with a cover bag thrown in for good measure.

The 10.2″ MSI Wind U123-002US with the 6-cell battery, Intel Atom N280, and Windows XP costs $349.99 $299.99.

GATEWAY
Another red netbook is the 10.1″ Gateway LT2021u. For $299.99, you get an Intel Atom N270-powered machine with 1024MB DDR2 533MHz Memory, 160 GB SATA Hard Drive, Windows XP Home (SP3), and 3-cell Li-ion battery. The Gateway LT2024u which also comes with a 3-cell, 3-hour battery already comes with Windows 7 Starter, and is selling for $329.99.

Gateway LT2030u

The Gateway LT2030u with a 7-hour battery life, already comes with Windows 7 and costs $349.99 $341.67. It has an Intel Atom N270 processor, 1024MB DDR2 667MHz Memory and 250GB SATA Hard Drive. The variant that would run for 8 hours on a single charge, the Gateway LT2041u, virtually has the same specs but a better battery, and runs for $379.99.

SAMSUNG

Samsung N140-14R Burgundy

If stoplight or lipstick red isn’t what you have in mind, then you might like the netbook Samsung has to offer. The Samsung N140-14R is, in fact, not red but burgundy. It has a 1.66GHz Intel N280 Atom Processor, 1GB Memory, and 250GB Hard Drive. OS is already Microsoft Windows 7 Starter Edition, and has a battery that can go for up to 7.5 hours.

I’m still deciding which is the best red netbook to pick up because while they all sound really nice, the Acer Aspire One AO751h-1153 is very good, and would be better if I could get it with a higher capacity battery but the Samsung N140 is very classy.

Then again, you can also choose a netbook and slap on a designer lid! Now, why haven’t I thought of that before? But then again… that’s a different list entirely. I’m sure there are other red netbooks out in the market that are festive red. Can you add to the list?
