Netbook sales soar in Q2 2009

Display Search just released a report with netbook stats from Q2 – 2009, and the little machines have done it again! Q/Q growth increased an impressive 40%, in comparison to notebook PC’s robust-but-not-as-robust 22%. Overall, netbooks also passed the 38 million mark, and as of Q2 2009, they make up 22.2% of the portable computer market.

Another interesting table the research company came out with is below. Netbooks represent one third of the market in Europe and a bit over one quarter of the North American market. In greater China, netbooks occupy the largest piece of the PC pie (18.6%)

Netbook sales may have grown in part due to the recession, and the fact that they could achieve such great growth despite the recession shows that they’re here to stay. The real numbers to look out for are Quarter 3 results – when we can see how netbooks fare in the back to school market.
