MSI responds to Microsoft’s ban: production of Wind U115 Hybrid will stop … soon?

This is a follow up on our previous post on Microsoft bans MSI Wind U115 because it has Hybrid Storage. Under the new Microsoft restrictions, MSI would no longer be able to ship out the U115 Hybrid with Windows XP. Instead they would have to pre-load the netbook with Windows Vista at an extra $50 or so.

We weren’t sure what would happen to the power efficient netbook and word is that MSI has just responded to the ban. But their response varies by location.

Netbook Choice quotes  MSI’s UK Marketing Manager Richard Stewart, saying that the U115 will still remain on shelves until inventory runs out and production of the netbook will continue until the end of July. Stewart sees it as becoming a “special limited edition” product.

On the other hand Liliputing is quoting a German netbook site that says the U115 Hybrid will be available with XP until October — when Windows 7 launches.

Will the netbook be available until July, October or until stocks run out? And where? Will it eventually ship with Windows 7?

So many questions we can only hope will be answered. The only thing that’s certain — the U115 Hybrid is a great buy at $500 and is still available at the MSI online store. You won’t find a netbook with better battery life.
