What’s so great about Intel’s Pineview anyway?
Intel’s PineView processors will be making their appearance at CES in January, and should become available right after on Jan 10. That’s right around the corner – and inconveniently placed right after the holiday shopping period. Hmph. Here’s what you should know.
For starters, here’s a bit from our post on Intel Atom processors
The PineView processor is the next big innovation in Intel’s Atom line, and will utilize a new system-on-a-chip Pine Trail platform. The new design means the graphics unit and memory controller will now live on the processor chip itself. Not only will this save a lot of space and result in a smaller singular chip, it will also reduce power needs by half and increase performance.
According to MSI, we’re looking at 20% better power consumption – about an extra hour of battery life.

The 1.66GHz N450 PineView will be on the market starting January 10. A bunch of netbooks have already been slated for release with this processor, including the Asus 1008P, MSI Wind U150, a Lenovo S10 IdeaPad and a netbook from Acer.
The 1.83GHz N470 PineView processor will be available in March. Word is Intel will be encouraging manufacturers to ship N470 bearing netbooks out with 2GB of memory.
