Intel N470 processor officially announced

We all knew the N470 processor was going to come out in March, we’ve been writing about it as early as October of 2009! True to its word, Intel has (accidentally?) published a press release dated March 1 announcing the N470 processor. It runs at a faster 1.83HGz – let’s hope this is enough to give all N470 netbooks an edge over the older N270/N280 line. The 1.66GHz N450 Pineview processor that came out a few months ago hasn’t raised too many eyebrows for performance improvements.

No word on which netbooks will come out with the N470. No word on when or how much it’ll cost. Let’s start a poll though – which netbook would you like to see with the N470? I’d love to have a Sony Vaio P running on the N470 – better performance, longer battery life, it’d make the Vaio P the best companion netbook – especially one that fits into my bag better than Paris Hilton’s dog.

Intel Expands Atom Processor Line-up for Netbooks

March 1, 2010
Today Intel introduced the Intel® Atom™ processor N470. This new, faster Atom processor for netbooks has integrated graphics built directly into the CPU to help enable improved performance and smaller, more energy-efficient designs for the popular netbook category. The single core Atom processor runs at 1.83GHz, with 512k of L2 cache and DDR2-667 support. Major OEMs are expected to introduce systems based on this processor over the coming months to further differentiate their netbook offerings with a higher frequency to deliver additional responsiveness for online and basic computing tasks.
