Intel Developer Forum (IDF) and Netbooks

Intel’s press material from the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) show how much the company focuses on creating ‘cool’ devices. They define cool as functional but stylish, long lasting but high powered, easy and fast. They know the computers aren’t just used to compute, but are part of our lifestyle.

Intel’s definition of Netbooks

Notice how Intel describes ‘em as 10.2″ and below. I thought that was only Microsoft…! Granted, most if not all 11.6″ netbooks have the Intel Z line of processors.

Better graphics are on their way!

We can soon say goodbye to the GM45 chip, and can look forward to “Intel Clear Video HD Technology with dual HD stream support.” Nice.

Mobile internet has reached a bottleneck

1 laptop uses the same network strength as  450 voice handsets! Intel raises a good point here, the infrastructure to support widespread hi-speed internet is lacking.

And last but not least, how much people are willing to pay for an extra hour of battery life [LAPTOPS]

Hmm, must take this in consideration in future posts. People in general are willing to pay $25 for an extra hour of battery, $50 at most and then it tapers off. Also, people in the US are more willing to spend for an extra hour. I wonder how this translates to the netbook scene – netbooks are after all expected to provide better battery life.
