Acer Review, Asus Review – Netbook 10

Here’a Radio Shack sale that has found it’s way on the internet. Courtesy of Boy Genius via cNet Crave. Radio Shack is offering an 8.9″ Acer Aspire One for $100 for a limited time only – between today and Sunday Dec 20th – with a two year contract with AT&T.

With AT&T offering all these netbook deals and, I presume, signing on all these new customers, I really wonder if their 3G network will be able to deal the heavy traffic it’ll get – especially this holiday season with everyone home and traveling (and not using their wireless/LAN internet at work).

But I digress. The 8.9″ Acer comes with Windows XP, and Intel Atom processor (I assume it’s the N270), 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, 802.11 b/g/, a webcam, built-in-3G — all at only 2.2lbs! Let’s also assume that’s a 3 cell battery it comes with, insinuating a 2.5 hour battery life. Definitely  an A++ for portability, but not for long lasting-ness.

Bottomline

Buy it if you’re looking for a second computer for light on-the-go surfing and if you have small hands. The 8.9″ netbook is pretty tiny. Not the best deal for your child/niece/nephew because you don’t want them surfing the web 24/7 wherever they go.

To give you a reference point, used 8.9″ Acer Aspire One netbooks are selling at Amazon for $270. (9″ netbooks are increasingly hard to get a hold off as not many manufacturers make them anymore).
