Fujitsu M2010 Review: Not Very Recommendable

Fujitsu M2010Outfitted with the standard netbook specs of an Intel Atom processor, 1GB RAM, and Windows XP, the M2010 is a solidly-built, snappy netbook with a pretty design and can perform okay with the rest of them, but it’s not the best netbook you can get out in the market for its $397.00 Amazon price tag.

Features and Drawbacks

  • Solidly built but light and compact – It’s a sturdy little thing at 10.2″ x 7.4″ x 1.3″ and 2.4 pounds, shorter than the MSI Wind and Samsung NC10, but not as small as the HP Mini 1000. Overall travel weight (which means if you put it into your bag with the adapter) is 3.2 lbs.
  • Keyboard feels cramped – Of course it has a bigger keyboard than the smaller netbooks but with somewhat tiny keys and a keyboard that’s smaller than standard netbooks’, it cramps your typing style. It does make up for it with the nice touchpad though. It’s of a decent size with easy-to-press dedicated right and left mouse buttons.
  • Very good screen – It has a 1024×576 pixel, 10.1″ screen which is slightly smaller than most of the netbook LCDs out which have 1024 x 600 pixels, which means more scroll time, but it makes up for that user effort with bright and crisp display, and glpssy coating that lessens the glare.
  • Performance is about average. – While apps load pretty quickly with a lot of stuff running in the background, the Fujitsu M2010 is just not the best netbook in the market. It scored below- or just about- average on several netbook tests. It can also get a bit loud (the fan) when used heavily, and boot time is about 40 seconds.
  • Disappointing Battery Life – There’s the rub. The M2010 ran for less than an hour on a 3-cell battery, and a 6-cell battery upgrade is a pricey $129. I mean the Asus Eee PC 1005HA, which runs for 10 hours more or less on a 6-cell battery, is only $378.00. And it’s still #1 on Amazon.com Sales Rank for Electronics.

Fujitsu M2010 Specs

  • 1.6-GHz Intel Atom N270
  • 1GB RAM (Upgradable to 2GB)
  • 160GB HD 5,400rpm SATA Hard Drive
  • 10.1″ 1024×576
  • Intel GMA 945GSE
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR
  • MS Windows XP Home
  • Ethernet; Headphone; Microphone; VGA; 3xUSB Ports; 4-1 card reader
  • Bottomline is that the Fujitsu M2010 is not a very competitive netbook with it’s steep price, nearly pathetic battery life and cramped keyboard. It’s a bit of a looker, sure, but then you’re not going to get a netbook for its looks alone. Sadly, it’s not very recommendable at this point when there are a lot of less expensive, better performing netbooks out.
