Frontier UX Netbook has Pine Trail AND DVD Burner
If there was one thing that I wish a little netbook has, it would be an optical disc drive. I want a small machine that fits into my bag, it’s thin, virtually weightless, but can also play DVDs. Pretty much like my laptop except… well, smaller. I’d like to watch movies, listen to music, maybe burn data into discs, you know? The lack of a DVD drive is one consideration that’s been nagging me about netbooks.
Looks like there is now a netbook with an optical disc drive: the Frontier UX netbook.
The 10.1″ netbook has an Intel Atom N450 processor, 2GB of RAM, 320GB hard drive, and 1024 x 600 pixel display. It has 802.11b/g WiFi, with a 6-cell (6 plus hours battery life) battery, and a DVD drive. It’s actually removable so you can use the slot for an extra hard drive. Operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium, and yes, it supports multi-touch.
It’s currently available in Japan for 59800 yen. Now whether we can expect the netbook to reach US shores, or for other netbook manufacturers to warm up to the idea that netbooks can come with a DVD drive is something to look into.
