Fun DIY things to do with your Netbook

Let’s take a break from netbook news and reviews, and focus on some of the fun things you can do with your netbook. Not so sure if you’d really want to, but hey it’s good to know what your options are!

#1 – Mount your netbook on your bike. Use it as a GPS

NetbookNews.de always has fun stuff up their sleeves. They’ve uploaded a guide you can use to mount your netbook to your bike to use it for GPS (and tunes perhaps?) when you’re out exploring the great outdoors. Works best with a smaller, cheaper, netbook like a $200 Asus Eee PC 701 with solid state storage – aka no movable parts that can be damaged when biking or stopping.

It’s a fairly easy process. Definitely worth trying out if you’re the adventurous type and have mobile broadband or 3G. If, on the other hand, you have an iPhone… I’d recommend keeping your netbook in your bike bag and using it for typing purposes, and using the iPhone instead.  Or using a twistable netbook like the Asus T91…. oh wishful thinking :)

#2 – Add a touch screen to your netbook

Here’s another easy – far more useful – project for your netbook, courtesy Laptomag. Keep in mind the process will cost you almost a $100 (for the touch screen and kit), will void your warranty and will take 3 hours or so to complete. But the benefits are wonderful – the ability to use your netbook outside. To get work done and enjoy nature at the same time. Priceless.

This DIY project is also compatiable with popular netbooks like the Asus 1000 series (including the 1000HE) and netbooks from Acer, Samsung Dell, MSI and Lenovo as well. Learn how to do it here.

If you go through with the above two, leave us a comment and tell us how it went.  And good luck! :)
