Designer Netbooks and then Some

There are a lot of wild things that you can do with a netbook, not just use it for your everyday email or Internet needs. The netbooks can also be a fashion accessory which is why netbook makers also make an effort to “pimp” their netbooks up. I thought it would be fun to look for designer (or not so designer but pimped up, nonetheless) netbooks, and here’s what I’ve come up with.

1. The HP Mini 10″ 1140NR Vivienne Tam Edition still merits the top spot in the designer netbooks list. It’s a fashionable netbook with a peony-inspired design in vivid shades of violet and red designed by award-wining designer, Vivienne Tam. It’s also still available from Amazon for the eye-popping price of $799.99, but in my opinion, it’s the most stylish of designer netbooks. Read our review here.

2. The fun-looking Samsung NC10 Agnes B. Edition with the lizard on the cover or the one at UK retailer, John Lewis with the flower which is still available for £329. we have reviewed the ordinary Samsung NC10 and you can read it here. It is also available from Amazon in blue for $329.99 and pink for $339.99.

3. Next in line is the LG Xnote X120 Mini which has the average netbook specs of an Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD and a 10.1” WSVGA LED Backlight LCD, but has a branded Levi’s design on the cover and comes with a denim Levi’s pouch.

Then there are the other pimped up netbooks. Looks like the Acer Aspire One is a favorite among netbook designers, because of these.

The UFO-Hayashi-designed Acer Aspire One went up for bidding on eBay early this year for $3000. Painted using the traditional Japanese zen painting, the Aspire One was a refurbished machine running on Windows XP.

Another is Japanese model, Momoka Eri’s Acer Aspire One, which is decked out in Swarovski crystal and beads. Momo owns a company that caters to livening up gadgets such as netbooks, iPods and PSPs. If hearts are not your style, I’ll bet they’d be happy to let you choose which design you’d like to go on your own netbook. Goes to show you can find anything in Japan.

No price has been given as to how much you can get your gadget pimped out in Japan, but the normal Acer Aspire One AOD150 you can easily get in Diamond Black for $329.99 and Seashell White for $329.72, Sapphire Blue for $328.00, and Ruby Red for $299.99 .
