Dell Netbooks – Mini 9 is back, Mini 12 is on its way OUT
Fresh off the Dell blog: Dell will be taking the Mini 12 off the market. And the Mini 9 is making a brief come back for an unknown time period. Overwhelmed? Me too! Let’s take a look at what this dual announcement means.
On the Mini 12
Let’s start with the Mini 12. Dell claims they’ve found the sweet spot with their 10″ line, especially with the 2100 Latitude back-to-school netbook scheduled to enter a lot of schools this month. They also mentioned this:
Larger notebooks require a little more horsepower to be really useful. More to come from Dell on that later.
On the one hand, I’m inclined to believe this is a valid reason, especially since most consumers mistakenly expect netbooks to act like notebooks. On the other hand, the increased competition in the 12″ netbook space (from Asus, Acer, Gateway, Samsung and HP…!) may have had something to do with it. However that little quote up there makes me believe Dell is gearing up to introduce a more powerful netbook with better specs.
After all, rumors of the Mini 1110 Argos have been making rounds after a leaked roadmap from Dell made it’s way into the hands of a blogger somewhere :). All we know so far is that it will run on Vista (free Windows 7 update perhaps), offer a 250GB HDD and 2GB RAM, and sell for less than $500.
Now that’s a juicy rumor, eh?

On the Mini 9
The Mini 9 is BACK! With prices starting at $299 – also the same price the base Mini 10v is available at. The Mini 9 and Mini 10v are similar except the Mini 9 offers an 8GB SSD and 4cell battery while the Mini 10v comes with a 120GB HDD and 3 cell battery.
This is awesome news – you’re getting the ultimate high-quality low-price netbook in two great sizes. If you’ve been fishing for a 9″ netbook, I recommend you get the Mini 9 before she sells out – it’s a great netbook, even Perez Hilton has one. (Note: for a $10 upgrade price, you can even opt for a 1.3MP webcam instead of the base 0.3MP one!)
