Dell Mini Tablet Family Expanding Soon?

Dell Mni 5 preview

I like the idea of the iPad but if we’re talking about touchscreen tablets, I love my iPod Touch. I also like the idea of the Dell Mini 5. It’s a 3G and WiFi internet device AND a phone, smaller and lighter than the iPad, and runs Google Android. It also might not be the last of Dell’s tablets. Dell’s Tablet manager Neeraj Choubey tells CNN that Dell “will have a family of tablets”. He added that the 5″ screen is the first but that they “want to scale that up to a variety of screen sizes” which means that we can expect tablet products with smaller or larger display than the Dell Mini 5. Probably up to as big as the iPad.

Dell also refused to comment on pricing except to say that the goal is to keep the Mini 5 and other Dell tablets’ prices “competitive”. If by saying competititive, he means with the iPad which ranges from $499 for a WiFi-only tablet to $830 for one with additional storage and 3G, we can expect Dell’s tablets’ price to run between those two.

I think it’s going to be a bit of a tough market though because the Dell Mini 5′s size brings it closer to the iPod Touch and the PlayStation Portable. If Dell is going to market it as a second device, then a person should be able to do more on it than what you can already do with your phone or your MID (mobile Internet device).

Dell is pretty optimistic though, so as always, we have to wait and see.
