Dell Mini 10 Netbook – Dell’s 10 inch 720p Screen netbook

Here are the important details on Dell’s 10 inch Mini 10 -

  1. Priced at $399 (QVC has it for $559 although they include Corel Draw, a year’s McAfee, and a 4GB SD Card). Dell gets the pricing right (hopefully) by keeping below the $400 magic threshold. Note: Have to confirm this after final release, and also this is for the base 3 cell battery model.
  2. It’ll be available with the Intel Atom Z530 1.6 GHz processor (Silverthorne). Actually, there’ll be two options – Z520 and Z530.
  3. The 10 inch screen will have 1024×576 resolution. A higher-resolution 720p screen option will be available in the future. The display is an edge to edge display.
  4. The keyboard is also edge to edge, 92% the size of a regular keyboard, and spill resistant.
  5. The touchpad has multi-touch with ‘new’ gestures.
  6. Some pretty cool additional features – a built in TV tuner, a built in mobile broadband, and a built in GPS.
  7. It will be available in 8 colors and you can buy Mini 10 at Dell’s website around Feb 27th. Its supposed to be available at QVC already.
  8. Available later – optional 2GB memory and optional 250GB2 hard drive. Currently, the 1 GB model does not have upgradeable RAM. Be wary of this.
  9. There are two batteries available – the 3-cell with approximately 3 hours battery life, and the 6-cell with approximately 6.5 hours battery life.

How are Dell keeping the Dell Mini 10 at $399?

I think Dell sees a big threat and a big opportunity and are answering with a netbook that, at first glance, seems to blow away the opposition. The 3 cell battery is a bummer – so make sure you go for the 6 cell battery. The graphics card isn’t too good either. Its actually a pretty standard configuration for the base model, except the TV tuner card.

I think it’s only when the 720p resolution starts becoming available that the Dell Mini 10 will become best of class. On the other hand it is close enough to Acer, Asus, Samsung to get a significant number of people begin to choose Dell.

Dell Mini 10 Ratings

Waiting for it to actually become available. have to say that the 16:9 ratio is a good thing, and that when the 720p screen comes out Dell Mini 10 will have a clear cut advantage. DellMini10720pScreen
