Acer Review, Asus Review – Netbook 10

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome Cellular South to the 3G-netbook race! Starting last week, they’re offering the Dell Mini 10 at $200 with a 2 year contract (after a $50 mail-in rebate). The netbook is available for $365 without the contract.

For those of you unfamiliar with Cellular South – they’re a privately owned wireless provider based in Mississippi. They also service the Alabama-Florida area, and provide cellular coverage and 3G coverage nationally. They’ve also been expanding their cellular service in Mississippi extensively this year and now cover 29 of the 30 largest cities. A.k.a – if you live down south and already have Cellular South, this may be the perfect deal for you.

The Dell Mini 10 with its built in 3G capabilities is popular among telecom providers and will soon be offered by AT&T for $300 as well. Here’s a look at the Cellular South 3G contract options and how they stack up against AT&T.

• $60 monthly plan with 5 GB monthly data allowance – same as AT&T

• $40 monthly plan with 500 MB monthly data allowance - now this is where it stands out. AT&T offers a similar $40 mo/plan but only for a data allowance of 200MB. Cellular South’s deal is perfect for users who want a little more than 200MB but don’t search the net enough to require the 5 GB deal.

• Student discount of 25% – $30 monthly plan for 500MB data allowance – perfect for students who won’t be watching Hulu. You’d either need to have access to free Wifi from a coffee shop or your school for you to take this plan as a student. Afterall, aren’t YouTube videos now sources of information for papers and what not ;)

• Added ‘bonus’ – the first 2,400 people to buy the subsidized Dell Mini from Cellular South will receive a free USB with the first Transformers movie on it. I’d be way more impressed if it was the new movie, but hey, that sounds like a decent incentive for the college crowd.

The subsidized netbook is available at Cellular South’s website and will also be appearing in its retail stores over the next few days.

A bit about the Dell Mini 10

The Dell MIni 10 is a sleek compact netbook. It comes with a 3 cell battery offering about 3 hours of battery life which represents the Stone Age in netbook talk. It comes with standard specs – an older 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, 1 GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Windows XP and Intel GMA500.
