Computex 2009: ECS T800 is the (cheaper) Android Version of Vaio P!!
Posted on June 5th, 2009 by Nidhi
Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) was one of few companies at Computex in Taipei to show off a netbook that runs on Android. You have probably heard about Acer’s Android netbook (expect a post on it from us soon). Well, ECS just round house kicked Acer’s netbook with its T800!

Here’s what makes the T800 so awesome:
- It runs on Android – Google’s operating system designed for mobile computing.
- Instead of the usual Intel Atom processor, it runs on Texas Instruments’ OMAP3 chip which runs on ARM processing cores. You can choose between an 800MHz option and a 1GHz option – a choice that will probably come down to price. Benefits of ARM include low price, low power consumption and high performance.
- At 8.1” the T800 closely resembles the form feature of the sleek Vaio P. The T800 also comes close to the Vaio P’s weight at a remarkable 1.8lbs (as compared to The 1.4lb Vaio P). The T800 is also half the price. ECS says the T800 will be available for under $500.
- In addition to all that, ECS managed to throw in a chiclet keyboard and a tiny touch pad!
Watch this video to see how sleek and small the T800 is, and to see how ECS fit in 2 USB ports, a card reader and headphone jacks.
Jumping up and down with excitement yet? You should be. Because this baby is small, affordable, looks great and with Android as its OS, should perform great. The T800 will start appearing in the market Q4 2009. Think you can hold off on buying a netbook till then?
