Acer Review, Asus Review – Netbook 10

The nVidia Ion graphics chip makes netbooks capable of playing HD video smoothly, and for playing graphic intensive games like WoW. Surprisingly, 2010 hasn’t brought any new Ion netbooks thus far, so here’s a comparative look at 2009′s best Ion netbooks based on LaptopMag‘s end of year study.

Top Contender – Asus 1201N

+ Intel 1.6GHz N330 dual-core processor = powerful, fast, capable of gaming
+ great video playback (the best of the lot) when combined with Adobe Flash 10.1 (30fps)
+ doesn’t overheat with constant usage
+ good specs – Windows 7 Home Premium, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD
+ seashell deign, an Asus trademark
+ not highly priced at $485
~ weighs 3.2lbs / edge 1.3″
- small touchpad and single narrow button
- 4 hour battery life

+ good for graphics and video playback (24fps with Adobe Flash 10.1)
+ aesthetically A+
+ good ergonomics = large touchpad and wider keyboard
~ decent specs = Windows 7 Home Premium, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD but 1.6GHz N270 Atom processor
+ affordable at $500
~ 5 hour battery life
