Asus Joins Windows 7 Upgrade Program

Asus announced that they will be joining the Windows 7 upgrade program which allows *some* Eee PC users to upgrade their Windows OS from Vista or XP to the much anticipated, and much hyped, Windows 7 for free (in the US), or at least, for a low price (to the rest of the world). I guess this is their way of making sure that the buying public doesn’t hold off on getting their hands on an Eee PC until Windows 7′s release date on October 22nd.

I’ve checked out details of the upgrade plan on the Asus site for you and noted that they’re offering upgrades for the Asus Eee PC 1101HA and the Asus Eee PC 1005HA. But not all 1101HA and 1005HA is eligible for upgrade.

Your Eee PC 1101HA and/or 1005HA should be purchased between the 26th of June 2009 and the 31st of January 2010.
Your Eee PC 1101HA needs to be currently running on Vista Home Premium, and your 1005HA, on an XP Pro or a Vista Business to qualify.

The Asus Eee PC 1005HA currently available for pre-order from Amazon.com (Model No.: 1005HA-PU1X-BK) comes with Windows XP Home. If I’m reading that correctly, it wouldn’t be eligible for free upgrade come October 22nd.

Asus just followed HP’s lead. They have also announced their involvement in the free upgrade program.

  1. Denise,

The free upgrade program will run through January 31st of 2010 as stated in this article. There is a purchase for discount upgrade program available as well. For information on the latter, see the Windows 7 Pre-Order offer page here: http://tinyurl.com/nldc8p
