ASUS EeePC 1000 HA

Amazon just dropped the price on the ASUS EeePC 1000 HA by $40 to $384, and now it’s #1 on the Amazon bestsellers list for Netbooks and Notebooks. There are two variants – Ebony Black and Pearl White.

Here are some more details on EeePC 1000 HA -

  1. 10 inch screen.
  2. Comes with Windows XP.
  3. A pretty usable keyboard – one of the best you’ll find in any netbook.
  4. An Intel Atom 1.6 ghz processor.
  5. A 160 GB hard drive – pretty impressive for a netbook.
  6. It’s not light at 1.45 kg.
  7. Great battery life with the 6 cell battery – 4 to 7 hrs. It has something called the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine to save power.
  8. ASUS also provides 10 GB of online storage.

  11. Overall, its a good looking netbook and pretty well equipped.

My thoughts on the Asus EeePC -

  1. Love the larger screen – combined with the power makes it ideal for web surfing, basic document editing, and watching movies. 
  2. I actually like the black variant more. 
  3. I have no idea what HA stands for. I wish they had better naming.
  4. It’s got a really good processor. Intel’s atom processors are the golden standard for netbooks.
  5. It’s pretty impressive that 100 out of the 106 reviews on Amazon are 4 star or 5 star (74 out of 108 reviews are 5 stars).

    • A few things to keep in mind based on reviews at Amazon  -

    1. The correct way to use the touchpad is – the touchpad keys are designed to be “thumbed” at the front, not pushed down from the top. Thumb the front edges of the button and you’ll be fine.
    2. Its not as portable as smaller netbooks. 
    3. The battery life increases after the first few weeks of use. 
    4. Upgrading to 2GB memory is recommended and is really easy.
    5. To play DiVX encoded movies on my 1000HA/XP there was no audio. You will need to download and install the K-Lite Codec Pack.
    6. The drive comes in default two partitions: (C:) and (D:).

      Thanks for the “things to keep in mind” part — really adds value to this summary, and is something that more sites should do. Collecting info from user feedback and including it as an appendix to a review/summary is a great idea.
