Asus Eee PC 1008HA Netbook Reviewed
The Asus Eee PC 1008HA netbook still remains my favorite of the Eee PC line, with its sleek look and slim curves. While TrustedReviews.com agrees when it comes to the looks, they’re pretty much saying that the Asus Eee PC 1008HA Shell is just a tad ordinary.

The Shell (which doesn’t really look like a shell) has a wedge shaped chassis which measures a measly 25.7mm at the back and tapers down to just 18mm at the front for an over all dimension of 10.3″ x 7″ x 1″, and weighs just 2.4 lbs. It is definitely the lightest netbook on the long line of 10″ netbooks. It also has a striking, glossy finish, and will be coming in black, pink, blue and red.
Technical Specifications:
1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 CPU 1GB of RAM 160GB hard drive 10 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1
But what makes it different?
While the 1008 HA shares some of the standard netbook specifications, the 1008HA also comes with a few surprises:
- The Draft-N Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR which not all netbooks can boast of;
- The 1.3 megapixel webcam also has stereo array microphones instead of the just one mic that most netbooks have.
- Asus has also decided against using the chiclet keyboard that they’ve placed on the the Asus Eee PC 1000HE and, recently, on the 1000HA as well. The Shell comes with a better tile-style keyboard where each key is flat and more defined. Even the touchpad is comfortably large.
- The Eee PC 1008HA Shell also hides its ports behind flaps so that they don’t detract from the smooth lines of the netbook.
The only issue that Trusted Reviews found to be of real concern was that while battery life last almost as long as Asus promised it would (3-cell battery can apparently last up to five hours), it’s non-replaceable. Completely. You can neither use spare batteries nor replace it when it finally gives out four to five years down the line.
It is pricey for a netbook, selling for £379.50 ($565 US) from Amazon’s UK site, but I think Asus did a great job on the design and the ease of use, and the 6-hour battery life on a 3-cell battery is amazing.
We have yet to write our own review, but we’re certainly looking forward to doing so when the Asus Eee PC 1008HA finally makes it to the States.

[...] Asus Eee PC 1008HA Seashell The original Seashell netbook, the 1008HA is a more, shall we say, advanced version of the 1005HA.
