The Asus Eee PC 1005HA is now shipping from Amazon.com for $389.99 and comes in blue or black. We’ve previously reported that it can run up tp 8.5 hours but the Amazon page has been updated, both to change the price as well as the battery information. Apparently, it can run (according to the updated page) an unbelievable 10.5 hours on a single charge.

Features
Über-thin and light-weight – as with most netbooks, the 1005HA is as thin and as light as it can get. Measuring 10.3″ x 7″ x 1.4″ at its thickest and weighing 2.8 pounds with a 6-cell batt (2.4 with a 3-cell batt), it’s not as light as the Eee PC 1008HA but there are some nifty differences that would excuse the excess weight.
Gorgeous chassis – can’t emphasize this enough, although of course that’s just me. I love the look and the design over all. I love the shape. The seashell design that mirrors its sister, the 1008HA, is eye-catching and stylish.
Battery – One, unlike the 1008HA, this baby’s battery is removable even to a non-Asus technician or a serious hacker. You can get new batteries yourself without having to cry to Asus to replace them for you. And second, battery life is phenomenal. Amazon promises 10.5 hours (the 63WHr one), but you can actually, honestly expect it to run for as long as 8 hours with pretty heavy usage. It’s not 10.5 but it’s pretty darn close. Asus also has a 6-cell, 48Whr batt, which is the 8-hour batt, and a 3-cell, 23Whr batt.
No Jutting Plastic Bits – another difference with the Asus 1008HA, this doesn’t have the plastic port covers on the side of the netbook. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, but while this exposes the ports, you also don’t have to worry about breaking something off when you forget about it.
Spacious Keyboard and Dimpled Touchpad – has nice, comfy keys on a keyboard that maximizes the whole space, and is very nice to type on. The touchpad is also textured and allows you to scroll and zoom with two fingers with your eyes glued to the monitor.
Performance – Great performance! With several windows open (browsers tabs, documents, music, photos), there’s no slowing down on performance. It can definitely handle simple tasks with ease.
Bonus software – Asus packed a lot of nifty tools that you may (or may not) use with the 1005HA like the Eee Docking utility which allows you to stream or download music, share and sycn messages with other computers, etc. There are also Parental Controls and even a Font Resize Application. Pretty cool.
Cheaper than the 1008HA – it only costs $389.00 from Amazon while the 1008HA is still at $419.99 for the Pearl White version.
Drawbacks
Mirror Display – The glossy display is great indoors but outdoors, it reflects your image right back at you like a literal mirror in sunlight. It shouldn’t be a problem if you use it indoors mostly, but outdoors, that image display needs serious adjusting.
Not as thin or light as the 1008HA – Definitely not, but there are a lot of features that they’ve added to the 1005HA that are not on the other version, and they have definitely improved on their seashell lineup.

The Bottom Line
While the specs may not be enough for you to chuck your old Eee PC, the 1005HA is a great option if you’re in the market for a new baby (or even if you’re not). Personally, even if I’m not attracted to how it looks (and I am) the Asus Eee PC 1005HA had me at “10.5 hours of battery life”.
