Asus Eee PC 1001P Review : Great Deal for Your Money
Budget netbooks are pretty hot. You sacrifice some aspects of a higher end version (such as less RAM or HD capacity or the lack of 3G), but then again, they’re still as good as their more expensive counterparts. Such is the case of the Asus Eee PC 1001P, the lower end version of the Asus Eee PC1005PE-P. The thing with Asus Eee PC netbooks, you can’t go wrong no matter which you pick.

Features and Drawbacks
- It has a textured, matte lid that makes the netbook, finger-print and smudge-free. – A big feature in my opinion. I think matte lids are awesome because they’re easy to keep clean and looks stylish.
- Keyboard is comfortable to type in. – The keyboard is rather comfortable to type in and even if you’re used to a full-sized keyboard, you’d get used to it in no time. It doesn’t have an island-style keyboard, the keys are evenly spaced. And the right Shift key is bigger and “more accessible” than the one on the 1005PE. The touchpad is also comfy to use and supports multitouch gestures. The single mouse button also needs getting used to but it works well.
- Doesn’t have the best monitor and speakers. – The screen provides decent quality, not the best, but decent. And since we’re talking about a netbook, the speakers also has decent, not the best, sound.
- Good performance. – It has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor so you can expect to squeeze out a good performance for everyday tasks. Applications open quickly, and having multiple tabs open while on a video call (Skype) and editing a .doc file didn’t give the netbook a stroke. It also comes with an Express Gate, Asus’ instant-on OS, which boots the OS in 8 seconds. The netbook also comes with a variety of Eee PC software such as the Eee Amuse button which launches the entertainment features of the netbook. Eee Splendid allows you to adjust on-screen colors. Others are LocaleMe (navigation software) and Eee Tools.
- Excellent battery life. – It says 11-hour battery life. Rule of thumb is to subtract two hours from advertised battery life so that makes 9 hours. The Asus Eee PC 1001P clocked in at 8 hours and 30 minutes which, without saying, is awesome battery life.
