Asus Coming Up with Netbook with a Slot-in Mobile Phone

Modu Phone

Asus is planning a netbook with a slot for a mobile phone that doubles as a modem which will allow the use of one SIM for both calls and 3G connectivity. So technically, you can use one data plan for your phone and netbook. Kinda cool! Take that, smartphones!

It actually works separately. If you don’t need to take the netbook with you, you can just slide the phone out of the slot and take that. Although I’d think you would need your phone in order for the netbook to be able to connect to the Internet since you’d be using one SIM card.

Asus is my favorite brand of netbooks and this seems like a good idea. I haven’t actually heard of Modu where the phone part of the combination will come from, until today but the phone module is apparently already available.

There’s no word on pricing or availability yet, but we’ll probably hear about it soon.
