Acer Review, Asus Review – Netbook 10

Asus has a pretty wide range of 9” netbooks – These include the 900 series, the 901 series, and the 904 series. Let’s take a look at these -

Asus 900 series

1. These include Asus EeePC 900, Asus 900HA, Asus 900A, and Asus 900HD.
2. The 900 A and 900 HA come with the Intel Atom N270 Processor. All the others come with the Intel Celeron M 353 processor. 
3. These generally come with 1GB memory – avoid 512MB and be sure to go for 1GB as it really improves performance.
4. The 900HA and 900HD come with a 160GB hard disk drive. All the others come with a SSD – the 900 has 12GB on the XP model and 20 GB on the Linux model. The 900A comes with 8GB or 16GB.The 900 16GB is a special model that comes with 16 GB SSD and some other changes.
5. The color choices are generally Shiny White, Shiny Black, Purple. The Asus 900SD and 900HD also come with Pearl White and Black. The 900A and 900HA instead come in Shiny White, Shiny Black, Purple, Blue, and Champagne Gold.
6. There is also a 900 16G model that’s a little hard to track It comes with the new Infusion Technology paint job.
7. The 900 and 900 16GB models come with a 1.3 megapixel webcam. The others have a 0.3 megapixel webcam.
8. The battery life varies from 2.5 hrs (the 900) to 4 hrs (900A) to 5 hrs (900HA). They are all 4cell batteries though.
9. There are some good prices on the 900 series, with the Asus 900HA available at Amazon for $320.
10. The Asus 900 is available for $379.99 for the white variant.
11. Also, the Asus 900 16G in black with XP Home is available for around $360.
12. These are referred to as 9” – however technically they are 8.9” screens.

Asus 901

1. The price is $379.99. The XP home variant comes with a 12GB SSD, and the Linux variant comes with a 20GB SSD.
2. The 901 comes in a variety of colours – some of which are really pretty.  
3. The colours include Sakura, Sweet Pea, Urban Metropolis, Peony White, Pearl White, Fine Ebony, Navy Blue, Chocolate Gold.
4. There’s 1GB memory and an Intel Atom N270 processor.
5. The battery life is amazing with 8 hrs for the XP and around 7 hrs for the Linux version.
6. It weighs just 1.1 kg and comes with an 8.9” screen.
7.  

Asus 904HA, Asus 904HD

1. These two models round off Asus’ 9” EeePC range.
2. They come in two colors – Pearl White and Fine Ebony.
3. The 904HD comes with an Intel® Celeron M 353 processor and 2GB ram on the Linux model (1gb for India/China, and 1 GB on the XP model).
4. The 904HA comes with the Intel Atom N270 processor. It costs $337.97.
5. Both models have a 160 GB Hard disk drive. The 904HD has a 0.3 megapixel webcam while the 904HA has a1.3 megapixel webcam.
6. The 904HA comes with a polymer 4 cell battery that gives 5.9 hrs battery life, although you can go with a standard 6 cell battery to get an hr more.
7. They weigh around 3 pounds.

Overall Asus has a good range of netbooks in its 9” line-up. I’ve found Amazon to have some of the best prices and would recommend buying Asus netbooks at Amazon. The naming and choices are confusing and I really think Asus would be better served by reducing the number of options.
