Asus 1005P & 1005PE – Pine View & 12.5 hours battery!
Posted on December 21st, 2009 by Nidhi
Not only is Asus coming out with two new 10″ netbooks with souped up specs – the 1005P and 1005PE also come with makeovers and look wonderful.
Here are some things new in both netbooks:
- 1.66GHz Intel N450 processor of the Pine View family – think extreme power efficiency
- Intel GMA 3150 graphics – no nVidia, but better than the accursed 945GSE
- New lid with a geometric design – available in black and white (possibly blue too)
- No more ‘eee’ logo! Asus finally replaced the ugly squiggly eee with a cooler ‘Asus’ logo
- Island keyboard – separated keys, like the Asus 1201 series and Apple’s MacBooks. While they might not be as soft to type on, they look and feel awesome. On a 10″ netbook, they’ll probably result in less typos too (esp. if you have big fingers). They also prevent dust from getting into the netbooks. +2
Both netbooks will also come with Windows 7 Starter. Price point will be in the low $400 range. Specs below the image.

Asus 1005P Features/Specs
- Matte screen
- 160GB HDD storage
- 6 cell (lower capacity)
Asus 1005PE Features/Specs
- Glossy screen
- 250GB HDD storage
- 6 cell (higher capacity) – claimed battery life of 12 hours! – Possible due to the power efficiency of the Pine Trail, after all the current 1005HA lasts 10.5 hours on the Intel Atom N series.
Unfortunately, both netbooks come with 1024 x 600 px resolution screens. After hearing about the release of the hd-screen-1005HR in Japan, I’ve been waiting and waiting for Asus to release the same stateside. Apparently January’s too soon – hopefully later in 2010.
