Acer Review, Asus Review – Netbook 10

Asus is launching the Eee PC 1003HAG in Japan in a few weeks, and it’ll come with an integrated 3G modem with download speeds of up to 7.22Mbps.

The new Eee netbook looks like a cross between the 1002HA and the 1000HE, with the new chiclet-style keyboard with the same touchpad and single mouse button as the 1002HA.

No word yet on when it will come to the States but it’s expected to be released in Japan on the 16th of May.

Asus 1003HAG Technical Specifications:

1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 PCU

160GB hard drive

802.11b/g/n WiFi

Bluetooth 2.1

10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display

1GB of RAM

4.3 hour battery

Windows XP

It’s going to cost 69,800 yen (US $722), and will come in black, white and pink.

Its obvious from the ad that NTT docomo are offering it, and that it’ll probably be discounted with a 2 year plan or something similar. AT&T are the only US Company offering subsidized netbooks at the moment.

If you don’t mind skipping on the 3G modem, you can always go for the older models. The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is a good option and a good deal. It has nearly identical technical specs to the new 1003HAGs and was actually the first netbook to have an Intel Atom N280 processor. One of its big advantages is that it has an amazing 9.5 hours of battery life!

That’s a 5.2 hour improvement in battery life over the 1003HAG. The 1000HE only costs $379.95 at Amazon so there’s a sizeable price difference too – though to be fair prices for netbooks in Japan are usually higher. The near $350 price difference will be smaller when the Asus 1003HAG hits the US.
