Acer Aspire One 531, Acer’s Newest Slim Netbook
The Acer Aspire One 531 is the latest addition to Acer’s netbook line-up.
In an almost simultaneous release with the Acer Aspire One D250, Acer launched the Acer Aspire One 531 notebook early this month. Its one of the members of Acer’s Slim line (not the most creative name though it does get the point across). Super-skinny, the 531 measures 255 x 183 x 19-26.9mm and is slimmer than its almost twin, D250 (258.5 x 184 x 25.4mm).
It has a 10 inch screen. Acer have seen where the market is trending to and are now focusing on releasing 10 inch screens.
You have a choice of processors to use in the netbook, either an Intel Atom N270 or N280, and memory is expandable to 2GB DDR2. HDD is 160GB. The one with a 3-cell battery weighs 1kg versus the one with the 6-cell battery which weighs 1.15kg. For fifteenth of a kilogram in added weight, I don’t think you want to sacrifice 4 hours of unplugged use with the 6-cell battery.
Specs are virtually identical to the D250. There’s WiFi b/g and optional Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 0.3-megapixel webcam, three USB 2.0 ports, VGA output, audio in/out, and ethernet. Keyboard is 89% standard-size and there’s a multitouch trackpad. And like the D250, it also comes with Windows XP Home.
The Acer 531 will be available in three colors – blue, black and red. Its super thin design will definitely attract a lot of attention and add to the portability factor.
Once more, the European market got the first taste of the newest Acer netbook. It’s already available at Amazon Germany (for $529 USD).

We’ll wait for the Acer Aspire One 531 to hit the States before we give you a more comprehensive review. At first glance, it seems like a nice alternative instead of getting a super-skinny, super-expensive laptop (MacBook) or netbook (Adamo).
