Early Look: Acer Aspire 1420P – it twists ‘n tablets

Acer’s Aspire 1420p, its twist-n-tablet model hasn’t released yet, but its product page is up and impressive. No price is mentioned, and the 11.6″ CULV will ship with Windows 7 Home Premium. That’s just one feature that separates it from other similar netbooks like the Asus T91 and Gigabyte Touch Note T1028 – both of which will soon ship with the netbook version of Windows 7 (Windows 7 Starter).

No word on price or availability, but read on for features and specs.

Acer Aspire 1420p Features

  • Twist and Folds into a tablet – just like the 8.9″ Asus T91 and the 10.1″ Gigabyte T1028, the Acer 1420p is slightly bigger at 11.6″ and can be used both as a notbook computer with its superior specs, and also as a notepad (the paper kind), ebook and navigational purposes  etc.
  • It also looks really good
  • Accelerometer -  among other things, the accelerometer automatically rotates images,
  • Multi-touch Screen – supports finger touch and pen inputs
  • Supports HD playback – which will be able to play HD videos a lot smoother.
  • Full sized keyboard – with larger keys making typing a lot easier
  • Up to 8 hours of battery life – considering the 1420p is using a 5600mAH 6 cell battery, the CULV will probably give you 5-6 hours on being used heafily.
  • Windows 7 Home Premium – pre-installed, and more advanced than the Windows 7 Starter that most netbooks ship with. Not that this is a netbook, as similar as it is in form factor.
  • Better  Specs – Because of its 11.6″ form factor, the Aspire 1420P can easily be mistook as a netbook, but its insides betray the difference. The CULV though comes with Windows 7 Home Premium and can thus offer a lot more in specs without having to worry about big bad Microsoft. The Aspire 1420P offers upto 8GB RAM and a 350GB HDD, in additional to a dual core processor and slightly better graphics chipster (Intel GMA 4500)

Bottom line

It’ll be interesting to see how much the Aspire 1420p sells for – it should be relatively cheap since its a CULV, but it is packing in Windows 7 Home Premium. Based on the price, we’ll be able to give you a better idea on whether the laptop is worth it. So far, it stands out from the 8.9″ Asus T91 and 10.1″ Gigabyte Touch Note T1028 based on larger size, better specs and better version of Windows. To give you a good idea of pricing, the Asus T91 sells for about $500 and the Gigabyte T1028 for $670.

Also, the non-twist/tablet/touch screen CULV version from Acer, the Aspire 1410 packs in slightly different specs and sells for $430.
