Early look: Acer’s 12″ Timeline 1810t netbook

Finally, a netbook worth drooling over! Acer did a poor job with their 11.6″ Aspire One 751h netbook which raised a lot of customer complaints, and may be slowing down production of the 751h. It also doesn’t help that Acer’s own subsidiary Gateway came out with it’s own (cheaper) 12″ netbook.

But Acer is redeeming itself with its new Aspire Timeline 1810t, which has “chasis of a netbook, heart of a notebook” (kudos to GadgetMix for coming up with that). The 1810t is essentially an 12″ netbook, but rightfully belongs in the Timeline (notebook) collection because of it’s Intel Centrino processor – far more powerful than the Atoms most netbooks run on.

Currently available for pre-order in Europe for 500 – €600 depending on specs (about $700 – $850).

Acer Timeline 1810t

Features

  • multi-touch touchpad (supports circular-motion scrolling, pinch action zoom and page flip)
  • great for HD – with an 11.6″ screen and a 1366 x 768 display, the 1810t also supports 16:9 and comes with a more powerful  graphic card.
  • Much more powerful, with a Centrino (single core) processor, the GS45 chipset and the GMA 4500MHD graphics card. Far more impressive that your typical Atom processor and Intel GMA 945 card. The 1810t uses an ULV (ultra low voltage) processor, resulting in lower power drain – and longer battery life!

Bottomline

This is perfect for those of you looking for a lightweight portable netbook which works like a notebook. At 3lbs, and with a thickness of 0.9″ to 1.2″, the Timeline 1810t won’t be a hassle to travel with. The only thing in the way of immediate success for this machine is its steep price tag. But you know that will drop in a month or two. Specs are below, and we’ll do a follow-up once the netbook hits the market.
